Anybody Got A Google Voice Invite?

If anyone else has a spare invite, I'd greatly appreciate it--my girlfriend and I have two kittens and I want to make them ID tags for their collars, but would like to reference one phone number to ring us both. If anyone could help out, that would be amazing!

Do you like your kittens? I ask because there is a perverse obsession, for some members, to post pictures depicting the killing of kittens.

All right, what are "google voice invites" and why do people beg each other for them?

I think I saw something on my Gmail page about how many I have, but I didn't pay any attention to it. How do you give them to somebody else? .. etc..

Incidentally, I googled "google voice invites" and all it came up with was a list of places where people beg each other for them.
 
an invite from Google is what you need to obtain a Google Voice phone number. Google only gives out so many of them. I dont know how many in what time period. Before it was Google Voice, it was Grand Central. I got my number through them and also had to wait for an invite from them.

I have no use for such a thing. How do I get rid of them? Should I sell them? Give them away? I see people asking for them, presumably for free.

If you didn't know what Google Voice was to begin with, chances are you never got an account to begin with. You can only invite people if you have an account.

I must have it, it says, "50 left," and there is a "send invite" button.

No, you are looking in GMail and those are invites to get people to join GMail. Having GMail does not give you GV invites. You'll need to sign in to a separate account with your GMail login for GV, much like Google Wave.

ok.. and nobody needs Gmail invites, I'm sure. Why would Gmail need to have the invite thing going, anyway?

Anyway, thanks for the info. I guess I don't have any Google Voice Invites to give away.

Do you still have an invite left? Not sure why I didn't know about Google Voice before today - total newbie.

But, Google Voice is perfect for me. I carry three cell phones (one for each of my jobs plus a personal). With GV, I could cut down to just carrying one...but, I am told that it could take months to get an invite from Google.

Aaack!

Can anyone out there in AndroidLand help a poor girl out?
