Anybody having trouble with SD cards?

My SD card was working fine for the first 9 months or so, but suddenly It's now 'write protected' and I can't modify existing documents or add files from the device. I have tried a number of different things, including reformatting on the device, SDFix, and using Diskpart on a PC to disable write protect, but none have worked. I can modify documents on the SD card from my PC, but not on the GN3.
Anybody help?

I have KitKat on both my Note 3 and Note 10.1 and neither lost the ability to write to external sd. The issue IMO is overblown. Try using the in-built 'my files' Samsung app.

Thanks, I use My Files to locate files on my SD card, but they still can't be written to. Can't see that My Files has the ability to change that.
When you say overblown issue, have others reported this also? It seemed to happen to me after the recent firmware upgrade. Regardless, the fact is I can't find a way to restore my write ability.

stock apps are unaffected by the new KitKat permissions. i am able to copy music from device storage to my External SD just fine with My Files. ES File Explorer fails though. i can create folders with the in-built Samsung app too. stock/system apps are not changed, they have permission to write to the card.

the 'overblown' part has everyone crying doomsday and claims that Google has killed SD card write ability for every app or claims that it is now read-only without an OTG dongle or hooking it physically to a laptop computer...those claims are unsubstantiated and often untrue.

I see. So my problem was simply that I was accessing Word docs that I wanted to edit using ********* Mobile.
My workaround is to store those files on the device and use the SD card for files, music , video etc. that use stock apps. I haven't done much testing as yet, but I can play my videos using MX Player.

Thanks for the info.

Yes completely, you are definitely not alone in this issue.

Google has addressed it and it sounds like it will be removed in the update to Android L
