Anybody try Tethering yet?

EasyTether is cheaper for the full version compared to PDAnet.

I have never used PDAnet but I just installed EasyTether and it works fine.

It's almost same speed as my regular internet. Couldnt really tell a difference

These two apps are both solid, although PDAnet supports Macs now, whereas EasyTether will in the future. Ironically, EasyTether was written by the guys who first supported Mac tethering on other phones via an app called USBmodem.

Either way, you can't go wrong.

Any tether to anh iPad? Will easy tether work on iPad? Or does it require special software that would not work. I currently use a pre, but am thinking about upgrading to droid incredible but want to be able to tether to my iPad easily
Thx

easy tether lite. get the app. download driver for pc. all information is at the app store. works without root. it is very easy.

I'm a PdaNet user from my Motorola Q days.

Then I got a Blackberry and switched to the Tether application.

I went back to PdaNet for the Incredible. I don't know if I got a discount for being a previous user or if they were offering a special deal but I got it for less than $20.

I made sure it ran on both my laptop and netbook.

Big fan of PdaNet and Tether. Either should work just fine.

FYI, HTC Sync is stored in the onboard memory. Plug your phone into the computer and you should see the setup file.

I did find this kind of funny. VZW says you can not tether but as soon as I installed the HTC Sycn and USB my phone to my laptop one if they options it gives you is to tether. If they don't want you to do it (TOS) why do they give you the software to do it?

The tether it talks about on HTC Sync is the tethering that they charge you like $15-30 a month for.

Ahhh, light-bulb goes on. So, do any of these 'other' tether programs with with Linux netbooks?

just setup the pdanet app and it works perfectly with my macbook running snow leopard. And this is via bluetooth!

Just for reference...
I've had RR high speed for years, but I recently switched to RR lite to try and save a little money.

I ran a speed test and got 1.06mb/s dl speed and .12 ul speed.

I tried easytether and got 2.08 mb/s dl and .05 ul.

I think I'm going to be canceling Road Runner.

I ran tether for eight months from a bb pearl flip on Alltel n it worked great it was my main iPhone internet and I used it heavy. the Verizon rep that sold me my inc said to tether and Verizon could throw a fit but not do much past that. Hell we pay thirty a month for data who should they be to say how we use it.

i'm liking easytether, i'm getting pretty good speeds and seems like a good alternative until rooting becomes available

please use your common sense.

im a new incredible user and have already established
that tethering SHOULD NOT pose as a substitute for
true internet service.

the more prominent tethering becomes, the more
vzw will become aware and potentially DO something
about it. fly low, dont go over your 5 gb.
dont torrent.
dont substitute your true internet service with
tethering via smart phone.

please.
be responsible with it.

I have had Verizona Broadband since the beginning (card, usb and now hotspot, WiFi). If you don't have a very good 3g signal I don't think tethering will work very well. The hotspot works very well and it provides WiFi to my Incredible. I don't have a good phone signal in my house, but the hotspot works great.

Complicating the matter is that since the tethering plan was announced, VZW has dropped the monthly charge to tether the Palm Pre Plus to $0. And while it's not unusual to have different features on different phones, it's going to be difficult to enforce a $30 per month charge for the Droid but not for the Palm Pre Plus.

This only lasts until june, not through the end of the contract.

I talked to multiple reps in store and they said your aloud to use 3rd party tether apps.

And that is was under the Unlimited Plan.

I asked if I was going to get a $3,000 bill and they all said no.

(This was at multiple stores on different days with same answers)

Take it for what it's worth. I'm not using tethering a lot. But just like to know that I can if I have to
