Anyone considering giving up Android for iPhone 4S?

I admit I am an Apple fan, own an iMac, Macbook and iPad but have never been a fanBOY. I never liked the iPhone and could see Android was clearly ahead in almost every way. I always said I would consider switching if two things happened. The iPhone caught up to Android and it came to Sprint. Well, it seems both have happened and now I have to decide. Guess I won't know for sure till this Friday when I go play with one in the store, but I have a feeling I will be getting one and selling my 2 month old Evo 3D. Anyone else considering switching to the dark side?

Not switching, I will keep my Atrix and switch been the Atrix and the iPhone 4S when I get bored of one.

No iphone for me. I prefer Android. I am waiting to see what the Nexus Prime looks like and what ice cream sandwich provides. I also like HTC aluminum phone built and hoping something like the Sensation XL with dual core comes to Sprint.

No. I've always liked the iPhone but I find it boring now. It just doesn't have a wow factor any more when comparing it to the latest Android phones. And it's too expensive (as always).

I would definitely choose an iPad over an Android tablet though.

Yep, the iphone 4s Siri is just to good. i can't resist the urge to buy one, so i am going to. i also noticed that iOS 5 is really smooth, and android is just to glitchy.. ill sell my optimus 2x speed for it.

Don't need that [iTunes] anymore with iOS 5

Correct. Because now they're pushing iCloud. If you want the freedom of just copying files to your phone, Apple still won't let you do it your way.

To the OP: sounds like you're a Sprint customer "settling" with Android, and now that the iPhone is on Sprint, you're going to jump ship. I'm sure there are many people in your boat, and Sprint thinks this is the case too.

Despite no exterior redesign, the iPhone 4S is quite the beast compared to the iPhone4. If I were in the Apple camp, I'd consider this a pretty hefty upgrade. But then again, I always put function over form, so the lack of exterior change would not bother me one bit.

If that's the best phone for you, go for it. I'm sure it will serve your needs just fine.

It's really dependent on the Prime. I'm a bit tired of the Android glitchyness factor, and feeling like a beta tester for every Android upgrade.

Yeh that's what I need. I use my phone as a USB storage device and player for swapping and storing songs, movies and teaching materials with other people in our office.

Well I am a big Android fan, have had one since the Hero. However, I have grown tired of not having the latest version of Android and wondering if I will ever get it or if Sprint will skip it etc...or worse yet, having to buy a new phone 6 months later to get the update because Sprint decides to stop updating a year old phone. It's become quite a mess.

I'm doing opposite. Going from iphone 4 to hopefully the prime. Been a long time iphone user since the 3g. Its just to dull now . There's only so much hacking w/ cydia etc and themes thAt you can do.

After owning the HTC Magic (I think that's what it was called) and Droid X and having issues with quality with the Android powered devices, I have decided to switch to the iPhone 4S.

I know the Android platform is pretty good and I did enjoy it when my phone actually worked. It's the hardware that is miles behind Apple. Neither phone lasted a year and would become very very slow and would not hold charges anymore. Customer support is down right terrible. When you have an iddue with your phone, neither HTC nor Motorola stands behind it. Good luck calling Google. I was stuck with calling Verizon, T-mobile before that, and they were even worse. The best they would do is give me an early upgrade.

Apple, on the other hand, has top notch customer service, quality hardware (I own many Apple products) and their OS is just as capable and the big thing is, it is more relaible.

I really think the minority of people really care about the tech specs and personalization ability of Android. My wife never used it, neither did any of my friends that owned an Android powered device. It's only here on these threads that people cherish those features.

I was on the Apple forums and when the iPhone 4S was announced, there was a lot of backlash. Now, Apple has reported that over 1 million iPhone 4S's were sold in the first day. Just goes to show you that what we read in these threads is usually not the majority of public opinion. Just a small sample of a select few.

The iPhone 3G is a 3 1/2 year old phone. Phones have blown past it.

I'm the same way. I hate iTunes. Can I sync music/files directly to an iPhone without ever installing iTunes on my computer? Then I might be interested. Otherwise, I'll pass. I didn't see anything at all in the 4S that would make anyone want to jump from Android or any other platform. In my mind the only reason anyone would buy a 4S is if they're already rocking a 3GS and they're happy. Then you've got a reason to upgrade.

I can't say I understand the rationale behind this.

When I am in the market for a phone, I'm looking at the present capabilities of the phone. Android updates are great, but unless it's a major version jump (like Gingerbread to Ice Cream), there historically hasn't been any jawdropping features between point releases. The only exception may be the difference between 2.1 and 2.2. But that difference would not be enough for me to buy a new phone "6 months later to get the update..."

To me, OS updates to the phone is purely a perk; a bonus. I'll never buy a phone simply because it gets timely updates. I more care about the capabilities of the phone (hardware), and as long as it's running a reasonably recent version of Android, I'm happy.

But to each his own. If you must have the latest Android at all times, there are Android phones for that. Nexus Prime comes to mind. If that doesn't meet your need, then I guess iOS is your OS.

Keep in mind though that even though you may get iOS updates immediately, it too does not get mindblowing changes between point releases. Between major versions, we're still talking about 1-2 years between them. Which is why I think worrying about OS updates is kinda silly for phones that generally get replaced in 1-2 years.
