Anyone else getting terrible reception?

HTC phones are notorious for having inaccurate "bar" readings. My Touch Pro worked just fine at 0 or 1 bars.

Didn't see it above... but to test your actual signal, dial ##33284. That will bring up FieldTrial. Look for your receive signal. If it's -90dB or higher (remember it's a negative number so -80dB is actually higher than -90dB) you're fine.

i just got my phone a couple of hours ago, my main concern was reception as im 7 miles from the closest tower..its 2-3 bars but call clarity seems better than the lg dare i had..downloads are pretty fast and it feels totally solid in hand...I'm in Love....

I'm not too worried. My Dare had lots of bars doing nothing, but the bars and 3G would always drop significant every time I tried to do something (data or voice). The call quality was also much worse than my Incredible.

Fwiw i connected my incredible to the Bluetooth in my car and it displays my signal strength on my navigation....

it consistently shows 2 bars more on my navigation screen then on my phone.
sometimes it only shows one more bar than my phone.

I had the iPhone 3GS and it constantly had max bars but couldn't make calls or get data. I learn to not trust them.

Not sure if I agree about bar readings in all situations, since when my Dash or G1 showed low bars, internet was slow and when no bars, internet and phone calls did not work. Then again, VZW could be different.

People can verify by testing Youtube vids in areas one device shows 3G and the other 1X. That is a more absolute test than trusting dB readings or bars. I did not take time to test this, since it worked great in town. Leaving town and the high coverage is where the dancing bars and 1X starts for Inc, but not Droid.

I tested Droid and Inc earlier and thought they were about the same, but I notice about a two bar difference in lower coverage areas (they both are about the same in high coverage areas). Inc seems to do a lot of bar bouncing while the Moto Droid stays steady.

I may have the same issue I have had with the N900- the hardware rocks- all except the phone radios :( . Might be keeping the Droid and returning the Inc.... Darn, Inc has my phone number too. I expected to keep the Inc and return the Droid :(

Perhaps it is still an easy change. Need to do Youtube and download tests first.

Update: I hope you folks above are correct and it is just a "bad bar" problem. Droid out of the box did not (still does not) have 2.1.

How come nobody has made an app to show the phones db signal in the notifications bar? Or if someone has done that anyone care to let me know? Definately a good app to have...

Good point, but I am trusting actual performance via the "great" Youtube and download tests ;)

I get great call quality and just sitting in my room i have 82-89db with 1 and 2 bars with 3g bouncing on and off and have had no issues.

U can check the db by going menu>settings>About Phone>Network takes a whole 2 secs :)

First off, the incredible is my first android phone and it's amazing. Was glad to see this thread because I've had 1 bar, and was scared it was a faulty antenna or something inside the phone. Sadly, I did hit 1x once or twice, and 3g was constant with att.

If I must complain:

Battery dies awful quick on this thing.

I could have waited 2 hours and paid $100 less on amazon. Argh.

Thankfully no reception problems here. Its SOOOO much better than AT&T I don't have words. Like comparing a phone to a rock, one works as a communication device, the other doesn't.
