Anyone else have their own cloud?

jimbro

Same as everyone else, I keep getting bombarded with offers of cloud computing from Google, Amazon, O2, etc.
Problem is, the space is limited unless you pay premium rates.

I have the following setup as my file storage requirement is in the TB range(photography files/JPG and RAW).
Desktop PC with
Primary drive-SSD for OS/Main apps
Secondary drive-Other apps/file storage
Third drive for adiitional file storage
Fourth drive-Backup drive

3TB WD networked drive. Holds a second backup and all files which I can access from anywhere(my own cloud drive)
It cost

I don't have mine accessible anywhere, but I have my main desktop at home with two copies of most data backed up locally, and 5Tb on 2 hard drives that I keep at work and periodically take home to incrementally backup to. This gives me 2 - 3 backup copies of all my photos and videos in addition to the originals.

I agree the cloud data options are more for smaller usage, documents etc. I use Google Drive a lot for files I want accessible at work, home and on the move through my tablet

I run a Windows Home Server on my home network and can access it from anywhere in the world where I have Internet access. I am able to upload/download files, as well as trigger a backup of the server to an external drive remotely. It may not be as slick as some of the cloud offerings, but it is not out there where anyone and everyone might be able to access it. Call me a skeptic when it comes to clouds, social networks, etc.
