Help Anyone else unhappy with the camera?

My crappy Eris took better pictures than this thing. Could it really be a software fix in the next update or what, cause alot of my pictures just look off with color and grainy looking. :mad:
 
I'm glad that the camera is one of the least important things to me on a phone, I pretty much never use them. I don't like taking or being in pictures in general though.
 
If you are someone that likes to use the camera function on their phone, the bionics does fall a little short.

But i downloaded the "Camera Zoom FX" app. It really helped a lot. Pictures focus faster and shoot much faster with it. Give it a whirl, see if you like it.
It's become one of my favs and most recommended apps.
 
First of all, for camera, change the pic resolution to 8MP - many ahve reported issues being much worse when they take at 6 MP (which seems to be the default for hte camera OOB). Same for video - it defaults to 720p, but the video can be horribly choppy and / or unfocused. Change to 1080p.

Second of all, when first starting the camera app, let it grab a complete focus on one object until you get a green square. After that, try taking multiple shots - it seems to work best if it gets that initial 1-2 seconds to get a complete focus the first time around.
 
To me the only bad thing about the camera is taking pictures of moving objects other than that the camera is pretty good. IMO.
 
I'll make another 1080p video at 80 mph - you'll be astounded.

I stupidly deleted the first two I made (1080 vs 720) thinking I had already uploaded them to YouTube....

Just in case this was directed at me...i didnt mean video i meant still pictures. I remember taking a pic with my d1 from a moving vehicle and the picture was still great not so much with any other phone that Ive tried. But i totally agree, the camcorder with the bionic looks awesome especially in 1080p.
 
Lol - true, you said pics- it just reminded me to make the new vids - it was because of your post but not necessarily in response to it.

It's sad that I have to buy a $5 dollar app just to use my camera. I would like to use the camera when needed, but the colors are off and they look like crap!

Thanks for the suggestion though. My rant isn't geared towards your thoughtful suggestion.
 
I don't have any issues with it. I wouldn't in a million years expect anything like my DSLR - this is a grab and shoot camera. If you tweak your settings, there are sweet spots. My colors seem fine, focuses great, brightness levels are nice tool to have.

I do have some blurring issues with moving dogs, but so does my DSLR, LOL.

I don't expect DSLR quality. Just a half decent picture without having to tweak the heck out of it. Like I said my Eris took better pictures and the fact that this phone was so expensive I would have expected it to be at least the same quality or maybe even a bit better. Which it's not.

I bought a copy of Camera Zoom FX and tried it out.

It is much better than the original App.

Amplifying what HotDawg said ... the starting point for all this stuff is the lens. The Bionic lens is "average". It just isn't going to be a Carl Zeiss lens ... ever.

The camera is a great improvement over my prior Atrix 4G and when focused is almost as good as my wife's iPhone 4S.
