anyone else waiting for phones beyond the Droid X

I'll be getting the Droid X since I get to upgrade once a year. My only reservation was that it would prohibit me from getting the next generation iphone in January if that's indeed when it comes out.

I guess I'm just fortunate to be in a position where I can try out all the latest and greatest phones.

What do you mean you "get to upgrade once a year"? Do you simply take out new one-year contracts every year? You make it sound like you have some special perk (ie: your occupation) that Verizon gives you incentive to upgrade every year, kinda like an NE2. Just curious what you meant.

Why would you want to get an iPhone? And this, of course, is assuming iPhone-coming-to-Verizon rumor #134 is true, unlike the previous 133 reports of it happening.

I dunno, this rumor seems pretty serious. And I'm not happy about it... it'll probably stunt Android's growth.

Im waiting until Motorola's "super phone" at the end of this year! I've had an update available since Feb. and have been waiting for the class of phones that will come after the 1ghz phones.

Pretty much the same here. Have an upgrade line available on a family plan, but waiting to see what this super phone dropping at year's end is.

I am waiting for a front facing camera phone on verizon, I dont care so much for the 4g aspect since my plan price will go through the roof then

I want a 5" screen, with a 2250mAh battery, 4G network speed, 2GHz processor, 1GHz of RAM, 16GB internal storage, 16GB SD card included (capable of up to 32GB), 10MP camera, 1080P video recording, flash that actually makes pictures look better, HDMI output, and I want it have overall dimensions to be just slightly bigger than the screen with it only being 0.5" thick! When they come out with that...I'll pre-order the day it's announced.

Oh yeah...none of that cheap ass plastic construction ;) and NO ugly ass humps for the camera (hello Droid X and HTC Incredible and the EVO as well).

Should be reality when I am eligible for an upgrade.

I'm staying with Motorola Droid until something compelling comes out. That probably means 2+ years. What would be compelling? Probably something that hasn't been developed yet: breakthrough in augmented reality? gesture based UI? heads-up display? integrated life-saving device?

Thinking more practically, it'll probably be like the last few generations of phones: a better mobile PC platform. It'll probably be made possible by new processors, batteries, radios and OS versions.

I still don't foresee a CE device killing the PC any time soon. (Steve Jobs is the devil.) The PC is too powerful a platform for a phone or pad to replace the innovative development arena that is the PC. But eventually some phone-type device will be the heart of an extended array of TV add-ons, desktop docking stations, car docks, wearable devices, remote devices that it will become the new juggernaut.

Steve jobs knows there are enough people out there who will buy his snake-oil-mac-pod-mini-tv-phone-pad, and not realize or care that they've spent $1000 + $199 + $299 + $299 + $499 + $699 to do differently some cool applications that were born on a $500 PC. Why does the world need a platform that allows open development when Satan is willing to spoon-feed the elite.

I'm staying with my Droid until my contract is up. Which, I'm sure there will be a high standout phone by next July (when my upgrade eligibility is available). This phone is completely capable of withstanding another year thanks to root :)

Verizon redoing their network does not make a phone useless. If you are referring to Verizon's rollout of LTE, the DROID(and all other phones) would still work just fine on Verizon's network....you just wouldn't be able to use the LTE part of the network.

I am waiting on the 2Ghz phone from Motorola by the end of the year.

Yeah, I could not have said it better myself. Can't wait til December.... I wwould actually drop the cash for the proclaimed 2ghz Droid on Lte. I think the Droid X is lacking in technology compaired to the other new top phones on the market and the 'Droid 2' is a waste of the name and production.

IPhone is cool... fun and definitely runs smoother than my Droid. Also iPhone has a better keyboard than any phone one the market. I hope iPhone doesn't come to verizone because I just picked up one from att. I'm not a fanboy the iPhone defense has its weaknesses but it has its strengths too. At the end of the day I'm looking forward to upgrading my Droid in December!
