Root Anyone had a succesdful UnRoot?

shell root? pull/img? this is chinese to me lol. but the unused commando is M100. if there's anything you'd like me to do to it for you, i can follow instructions fairly well.

Paxchristos, I have not yet got to these files, yet, but I will. I can say one thing for sure, as the old saying goes, you can not have the cake and the ice cream at the same time.

More I think about this, and doing a cross reference on the files, which will take some time, for some dume reason, I think the root is holding on to some files, like glue and, I would venture to say you are actually deleting some of those files when you unroot. The second side of this could be when you delete the bloatware (as they call it) you might just might possible be deleteing some files that the update is looking for, and thus the update fails. It is a long shot, but I will check this. Don't hold your breath, this is going to take awhile.

If anything it might be the second... or the hash check they use might have a simple date/time last changed check, which people who froze wouldn't have touched, whereas people who uninstalled/reinstalled would fail...

Pax I'm pretty sure its the date,I thought that as well and sure enough all my deleted-reinstalled apps have the date changed when I view the file info in root explorer

Interesting bit of information that I would like to share and that is veriszon has discontinued the commando C771 (GzOne). According to the salesperson, I guess most phones are on the shelves for about 7 months and sometimes less. The person stated that the cell phones are coming out with new stuff about that lengh of time (5 to 7 months) so the older styles are discontinued, what a drag.

I am not saying that you can not get a replacement, it is just they are no longer being sold at verizon stores, well at least this store where I live, no longer carry the GzOne Commando.

I noticed they are still selling them on Verizons website.
Anyone else hear that this phone is no longer carried by Verizon?

When I was trying to get asurian to replace my phone cause I got water in it and it was taking them like a week they told me I could do an in store exchange. I went in store and there wasn't a Verizon store in 500 miles that had commandos in stock

The remark I made about the Commando C771 is that according to the sales person the phones can be bought on the web site; however, the sales person stated the phones are not being sold in the main stores, they have been discontinued. There are stores that say they are Verizon but are not, I found out this the hard way, when I need some information on how to do something, those store people did not know anything about them, except to sell them, not good. Kind of remines me of Radio Shack, the same thing.

Paxchristos: We have got to give Spike G a gold star on that one, for sure. Checking the date/time files, before and after, rooting or unrooting. Again a long shot, the update scripts for m100 update might be reading some part of a script within the root script, thus it could be a true, or, fase statement. Which ever way it is that could prevent the root script from working. Naturally it could be just the oppisite the root is not finding a certain script in the update, thus no cigar. One hell of a mess, uh?

Umm... the exploit used for current rooting was closed in November, that's why rooting doesn't work... (they patched Android, kinda like how windows has security patches every two minutes :p )

Yeah....they have NEVER had them in the stores in my experience.
Verizon has a large "real Verizon store" presence in my area.

Would like to know if they are truly discontinued.
If so....I bet we have seen the last of the updates.

Rafael: As far as I know the answer is yes, the main store here in Yuba City Mall no longer sells the Commando C771, and it is the main store for the two counties Yuba and Sutter. Now the so called non main stores might or might not sell the Commandos. I know that Sam's Club here where I live had tried to obtain the Commandos; however, they could not get them.

Now as far as the upgrade goes, only time will tell.

Paxchristos: That file that you sent me a few days ago (March 23, 2012), I cannot open it to read it. My system states that there is a error.

If you recall what Spike had stated about the time and date change when root and unrooted, that you can not get the update on the Commando. Well I have found that the update from m70 to the m100 has changed the kernel version to 2.6.35.7-pref and was different than what I had with the old phone. I have noticed that the android system files can not longer be seen as it was in the older verison (m70). This could be a very big problem depending on how it would be handled.

As it was stated eariler the backups are not going to do any good, eventhough you try to install them, after they have been deleted the first time, Spike already proved that aspect. Deleting the bloatware will most likely create problems when trying to restore the programs, there again the update could fail, because of the time and date.

My thinking about trying to create a root for this update (m100) is going to be a big headache and really not worth the effort. No sooner than you root this update, they in turn will patch it, like with windows whatever, and then you are back to square one, as we are now who have the upgrade (m100).
