Anyone have Google Voice voicemail working?

I've tried YouMail, and when it works it's pretty nice, but you have to pay an extra $5 per month for forwarding and it seems hit or miss. Some calls actually go to it and get a different message and I get visual voicemail, some calls go to the regular Metro PCS voicemail and I have to dial my own number like it's 1995 again.

So, I've installed Google Voice, and I can use it to make outgoing calls. I've gone into settings and selected it as my voicemail service. Yet, when someone calls me, they still go to Metro PCS, and I still have to check the voicemail the long way.

Anyone got it working? Does it also require call forwarding? I've done some research and it seems each carrier/phone is a bit different.

Thank you for posting this. I'd be interested in learning if anyone's used it. I personally haven't tried it yet though.

Have you tried the visual VM app from the metroPCS app store? It still works off your normal Metro VM, but at least you dont have to "dial" anymore.

To get ALL voicemail's to go to google.

1. Disable "visual voicemail". (it is an annoying app on metropcs smartphones.)
2. someone calls your google number
-> then its forwarded to the metropcs number
-> then when you don't pick up (do not push ignore, just silent)
-> google will "give up" and redirect to voicemail.

("give up" is just like trying another phone in your list, but since there are no other phones listed, voicemail is the last option)

In other words, there's no way to have MetroPCS change the voicemail carrier over to a third party service. You'd have to forward and give out your Google Voice number to people instead of your MetroPCS number.

I looked into this but it was some months ago. Has it changed now?
