Help Anyone having problems with google sat nav?

It will give me a list of directions (so obviously 'knows' where I am) but will constantly search for GPS, fail to find it (I'm giving it enough time too, like 20 mins!) and won't do the turn by turn voice directions.

Should I uninstall and reinstall it? How do I search for updates? (Although I only installed it a week or so ago) My phone usually tells me if there are any updates to be had.
Is there a setting that I don't know about that tells the phone to look for satellites?
