Anyone in the UK got their Nexus One yet?

Haha, lol at that! :D I'm too looking forward to get to use my phone for real and not just playing with the apps :).
Yeah, the apps are a bit overwhelming - amount wise anyway. I need to get out and use the phone in anger. I still need to adjust some more settings and stuff though.

Battery technology is the only let down in mobile devices.
I saw an article on the Beeb last year about batteries that charge in a few seconds. They don't last longer (I don't think,) but being able to charge your phone in under 10s would be brilliant, especially when an awesome new phone arrives telling you wait for a sodding green light. :D

I think I'm going to wander into a local phone store with my phone out and try to see what the reaction is like. Ha! Never been so excited to go shopping with the Wife :p
Haha there's a fake-caller on the Market, it pretends to ring your phone at a specified time. Get that set for right in the middle of their sales pitch. :)

Oh, you brave man! What if, like I read in another thread somewhere, they ask to touch it?! Now, I'm quite happy for my parents and friends to have a little play, but a stranger in a phone shop who will undoubtedly get the "my precious" ring syndrome the second the clap eyes...

"Tonight on the BBC News. A man has been attacked on the high street. Reports from onlookers say the attack arose after the gentlemen asked if he could look at the attacker's phone. After the attacker reluctantly agreed, the now comatose man accidentally dropped it onto a hard surface, and the brutal attack followed.

"Google CEO had this to say: 'Well, it's a superphone. The man who asked to look at it clearly wasn't super enough.'

"And now for your local news..."

I have another quuestion, purely for the uk users. I've read that the Amazon mp3 app is supposed to be displaying in

Lol. Gutted, I went into O2 and Vodafone to look at the 3GS and no-one came near me. I had my N1 out checking my emails but nobody looked my way. Damn, I need to take the Wife shopping again tomorrow to see if I can show my N1 off.

Lol. That was funny (if not true or maybe if true?)! Yeah, I think I'd be nervous if some random wanted to touch it. The fact it has google on the back means people can tell what it is when you are on a call.
Anyone else had strangers asking to touch their phone or seen any others in the wild? Maybe I should start a new thread to that effect?

I haven't actually left the house since I got the phone. Luckily my boyfriend and I are both too poor to travel to see each other at the moment as I don't know how I would've explained that I wanted to spend the weekend with my phone and not him!! Just spent an hour on skype with him and about 60% of my sentences started with "And look at what else it can do

Lol, we've all done it but that doesn't make it right
Who am I kidding? It's a great/stessful/exciting/pant wetting  experience.

It's a stay up til way past 2am to make sure it has cleared customs experience. These things are important, we shouldn't just trust dhl to do it, they need our supervision!

And mark, as for apps

Haha, well, most people in going to those phone shops on high street (Princes Street?) aren't really that savvy anyway, I mean, you have to be at least half geek to even know about the N1 :).

And that explains what happened to me on Friday when I brought it to Uni. I arrive at a tutorial with 40 or so students at their PC's when a friend (who knew that I had recently gotten the N1) exclaims rather loudly "Hey! How's your Nexus One!".. More than half the class turns around to look at me :D. Later I had quite a few people gather around me to have a look at it :P, even some of the tutors came around and didn't seem to care that none of us were doing our work.. The N1 justified it I suppose :P.

With that said, I study Computer Science so at least half the class are 100% geeks :).

You are right about needing to be at least half geek - or know someone who is! I'm pretty gutted I graduated my Comp Sci degree last year, as my classmates were all full-breed geeks and would've died if they saw. Though actually, I reckon at least 2 would've ordered on release day and stolen my thunder ;)

And that's it! Whew! All apps are free or at least have a free/lite version of them with limited functionality. All found on the market.

I'll be checking some of those out in a bit, I think. BeebPlayer doesn't work so well for me and I'm connecting through wi-fi. Frames sometimes stick (if you see what I mean) and merge into other ones, and the sound always goes out of sync once that has happened a couple of times.

I'm still yet to experience any of the problems posted in all the forums, thank goodness... have had no probs with my touchscreen as yet. Looks like we all got a good batch :D

To be honest I've only watched 5 minutes of beebPlayer so I can't really give it a fair review, but my first impression was good and if it works properly it could be a great app.

When it comes to problems I haven't experience any either. Well, first time I used the phone I kind of overloaded it with apps running on the background (before I knew about app-killers) and it made it do some weird stuff, like unable to unlock the phone. Unlock screen showed up but I couldn't interact with it. But since then I've had no problems at all except for occasional app-crashes, but that's got nothing to do with the phone.

EDIT: Oh, and I tried the Gameboid app. It's awesome! Playing pokemon like I was holding a GBA! Requires some playing with the keybindings first though.

The phone I'm currently using is the HTC Hero, and I'm interested in upgrading to the N1, but I'm waiting for it to come to Verizon Wireless here in the US this spring. I like the Hero, but I'd really like something faster, more robust and I'd love to have a bigger screen.

The Nexus One seems like it would suite me very well, so I've been reading everything I can find about it. I'm especially interested in what people who own the N1 are saying. It seems like all the tech editors and so called Smart Phone Guru's can only think iPhone, iPhone, iPhone and I'm tired of hearing it. That's why I came into this forum to begin with, because I was interested in what people in the UK were saying about the N1. The humor is good here and I've had more than one chuckle, especially from comments made by Oniongirl.

I have found that the aps you buy in the market are not necessarily the best ones. There are many, must have, free aps too. Nelien mentioned quite a few above, one of which is the barcode scanner. I had to download that for my Hero and I assume you would for the N1 as well. There are many uses for it, and you need it to read QR Codes, which are 2d-codes found throughout this forum and the Library (market) which you can reach on your computer at androlib.com. When you find an app that interests you, you can scan the QR Code with your phone to download it. It's easier than entering the market on your phone and searching for the app.

I also found a guide called Android Apps Buyer's Guide put out by businessinsider.com and a Utility Starter Kit put out by cnet.com. Another interesting place to visit is a thread right here in android forums called HTC Hero: Tips, Tricks & Useful Aps. Please don't be put off by it being a Hero forum, because a lot of the information will pertain to the N1 as well. The thread was started by leeky from Manchester, UK. He calls it the phone guide and it's really good.

Wow, thanks a lot for the links and advices, I'm going to have a look at those suggestions asap!

As for whether we recommend the N1.. Well, you might get very one sided comments here :). This is my first smart/superphone so I'm very biased but it seems to me (from what I've seen of other smartphones, including the Iphone) that it's the best one made yet. I have to agree from the little I've used the Iphone that Apple did a good job on it (as the sales figures tell us), but as far as I can tell the N1 is at least equally good, adding on top of that that it's Android, hence Open Source and much more customizable it doesn't leave me with one doubt which one of the two, N1 and Iphone, is the winner.

Its there now - you just need to press the ALT key when on the 123 keyboard :)

Let me rephrase that for oniongirl.. A UK update had better put the
