Help anyone know how to make the pulse (tone) longer?

I have a home security system that if it gets activated it calls me. I am then supposed to enter a code to deactivate it. I can not get it to deactivate on either my Optimus S, or my husbands BB. We called the tech support line for the alarm system and were told that a cell phone, when you press a key the pulse (tone) is very short, not long enough for the dialer to "hear". The tech support guy said we should be able to "lengthen" the pulse. Well, I can not find that option on either my Optimus or the BB. Anyone ever run into this problem and know how to solve?

This sounds like what your looking for. Go into Settings. Then choose Call settings. At the very bottom choose DTMF Tones. The default setting is Short. Switch it to Long and you should be good to go.
