Computer froze while ODIN was flashing stock android on Captivate.... now captivate won't turn on or go into download mode. Can I send it to att/samsung or what? tried the ohm trick but haven't bought the jig yet.... a lot of people said that if the device won't even go into download mode then the jig won't work...

i think though that when i try the power button the device get's warmer though, hopefully that's a good sign? :\

Have you tried the old "button hard reset" on it yet?

1. Turn the power off. Pull the battery out and replace it if the Power button doesn

Worth trying a jig I suppose. I picked one up before ever actually needing one as they're cheap insurance and better to have it ahead of time then be down waiting for it to come in.

if the device is hard-bricked - e.g. doesn't respond to A/C or USB connection...a JIG isn't going to do jack (speaking from personal experience here).
If, when you press the power button, your device's back lights come on, you're fine. a JIG will save your device; otherwise...forget it.

It's possible that your warranty will cover it, but...I wouldn't hold your breath. The useless "tech support" @ Samsung told me that you have to have the original receipt for them [Samsung] to repair your device (apparently it doesn't matter if the IMEI is registered solely to you).

My SGH-i897 shut off (last night) during a re-flash of stock 2.3.3 (ODIN), and is now nothing more than a paper-weight.

This is exactly what happened to me. I was trying to return the phone to stock simply because I am selling it and wanted the new owner to have a clean slate.

mobile tech videos has a service to fix them for $50.
MobileTechVideos Samsung Captivate Services
This is what I will be doing.

This samsung has been hell since day 1. From the lag, to the crappy gps, lack of froyo or gingerbread updates, soft bricking and now the hard bricking, this thing has given me nothing but headaches. I can't wait to get this phone back from mobiletechvideos so i can get it and samsung out of my life forever.

The ONLY good thing about the captivate was the huge development community which was I'm sure due to so many people wanting to get off of stock to either try to get their gps working, do the lag fix, or get froyo or gingerbread since samsung took so long.
