Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

I think that exchanging it right away is kind of a silly idea. if this is a wide spread issue and something that hasnt been fixed yet, y not wait till the last possible return time, around july 3rd to exchange it, with the hopes that
A)be in less demand so more stock to just walk in and exchange
B)the problem could be fixed by then

i have the tiniest almost not noticeable screen seperation, have to look at it at the right angle almost under a microscope to see it. theres no way i could go to sprint and show it to them, so waiting till it A)gets worse, or B) is at the end of my return period makes more sense
 
Same seems to have happened to mine, its only on the bottom left, just a slight variation in height compared to the right corner. However this is some play when i push down on it.. That indicates that the glue did not cure or there is no glue.

FYI I started a thread over at the HTC forums for this issue. I think you guys should Chime in.. This has to be brought to their attention otherwise it wont be considered an issue.

1. Goto walmart or Home Depot and purchase a small clamp, nothing with too much pressure otherwise you'll crack your screen.

2. Use a hairdryer to heat up the lower edges where the screen meets the bezel. Make sure you get it hot, but don't go all out otherwise you'll mess up the screen and/or buttons. You want it hot enough to heat up the adhesive.

3. Once you get the area hot, lay a piece of cloth on your screen and use the clamp to apply mild pressure. (as if your were continuously pressing it with your finger)

4. Let it sit for a few hours, if not overnight.


This may help some of you guys out. Oh yeah, use at your own risk!

What I'm getting at is, someone with a total of 2 post shows a pic of a ripped apart EVO and says" the adhesive is failing regardless of the case being on the Evo. As you can see there is very little of it. Probably the problem right there." and we are all suppose to respond "wow that is some crappy craftsmanship". Come on, At the most we are only talking about , in the scope of things, very few cases of real problems.

What on earth are you talking about? Plenty of people have this issue as demonstrated by the posts here and on other EVO boards. Enjoy your phone. You either haven't noticed the problem or are lucky, but don't call someone else's credibility into question with post count. Neither here nor there, especially considering your low post count.

This is exactly why I'm shying away from being an early adopter anymore. I'm hoping this only affects the first batch or so... how could they have missed something like this that is so significant? Htc has always had solid build quality on the winmo lineup, why are they cheaping out on android???

The one good thing about the innocase is that it seems to hold the screen down as low as it should be. I'm trying to forget about my woes now. :\
 
How did you get them to sent you a replacement, if you don't mind me asking? I called and the sprint rep told me they were out of stock. So I'm cool with that put me on the list when you get some in send me one, mine is holding up with only a few dead pixels and very minor separation. They told me they couldn't do that, and I had to keep calling back until I caught them with some in stock.
 
It's definitely a problem, and hopefully HTC gets it fixed ASAP. What I can't understand is this....Android is on the brink of becoming so absolutely huge, as well as HTC as the company who's pushing the OS out on a sexy device. I mean they can't even keep there last two devices on the shelfs. And instead of capitalizing on the momentum and putting out quality hand sets, there cheapin out and putting out devices that seem half baked.

I'm hoping they rectify these problems as far as build quality goes, as well as fix there lack of screen supply issues with Samsung. I for one am pretty let down at this point with the build quality of my last two HTC devices, let's see what the next wave brings.
 
If my phone's screen pops out... it probably will be at a time where evos are well in stock. I will restore it back to stock, after I get my titanium backup.... go exchange it due to hardware defect, go home, root the new one.... restore my shit and be happy. Problem solved (Assuming of course I have this issue, which I have my reservations about).

Actually over at Androidcentral there are a lot of users with the same problem. I just happen to catch the same type of thread over here and wanted to chime in. I didn't realize post count = credibility. It's clear something isn't keeping the bottom of the glass in place. Looking at the tear down picture it doesn't take a rocket scientist to see why.
 
I've read all these threads carefully and checked my phone every which way described here and can find absolutely no sign of any of these build issues. In fact I just discovered something that I probably missed somewhere along the line...if I cover up the phone with my hand, the buttons light up..and go out once exposed again to the light.

Obviously some clearly defective examples out there built on a Monday in Taiwan..not mine though
 
I feel like my phone is Darth Vader. So tough in it's armor but under it's tough, seidio-branded shell lives a phone forever disfigured.
 
Mine doesn't bother me too much. Can't wait to get a silicone case for it though. The way I figure - I still have another line due for an upgrade and the 1.5 - 2 Ghz snapdragon Droids are coming out by next year, so I'm gonna upgrade to the next best thing anyways. I love this phone and just hope it lasts till next year :)

PS: Maybe I'm just more tolerant because I'm a Palm Pre owner and if you think THIS is bad LOL sheesh you shouldve seen the Pre hardware problems. This EVO is a beautiful slab of glorious marble compared to the Pre
 
First things firts... there is no relation to someone's credibility or knowlege by the number of his/her forum posts. This is purely immature of member "hardcorp" to refer to another member with 2 posts as not being intelegent or credible with his/her input on this topic,

@ bpmurr Thanks for taking the time and giving the demonstration of the adhesive under the screen. Nice pic and very helpful as well as giving us all an idea of what is causing this problem. Great contibution to the subject if you ask me.

i bet less of us would care about this problem if more cases were on sale and readily available but instead we're stuck admiring our phone and seeing any flaws with it ;)


My EVO (since replaced due to separation) is still sitting on a soft microfiber cloth when im not using it

until i can get a case for it without paying ridiculous shipping

lol

Is the separation any better on this one?
 
yes its better but i think light leakage is starting to appear again, theres like 2 pin holes of light now


almost like charging the phone and the heat it creates is causing the glue to fail or something

its still better than the first

but we'll see if it gets worse after a week

whether or not light leakage is the first sign of screen separation maybe

but screen seems to be adhered fine still
 
I'm sure the adhesive and the light leak are related, but who really knows at this point. I've got the light leak, but no real screen issue.

At least you're proving to the rest of the community that swapping our a phone isn't going to necessarily solve the issue. Good luck with the housing though. As I've said before, the joys of being unable to resist the early adopter period...

When I went to replace my EVO i actually bought the Best Buy Protection for 10 bucks a month (since you can only do it within first 30 days)

I also have TEP (again only purchaseable within first 30 days)

Of course these defects im sure are covered through the 1-year warranty but what the hell -- a little EXTRA protection never hurt haha

My reasoning? Until they get the adhesive problem fixed and if mine gets worse after 30 days

I dont feel like sending it away to be fixed, of course I havent read the terms and conditions of best buys policy but from the sounds of it. As long as they have stock they will just replace mine with a new one

And can cancel any time... my plan is to use best buys protection for about 2 months while this adhesive problem persists so i can easily just switch out if HTC admits the problem and has confirmed new shipments have the problem fixed


As for the TEP from sprint -- i thought BB said they didnt cover spills / water damage... rep said they did but ive yet to read the fine print... thats on my to do list tomorrow while im at work :P

As far as I know, both services (Best Buy and TEP) cover water damage, but only Sprint covers loss or theft.
