Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

This sorta thing would be covered under the standard 1 yr manufacturer's warranty. This is a manufacturer defect. :( No insurance is required.

I did figure that. :) I am just wondering if this means you HAVE to go through the HTC/send phone away process after 30 days or can Sprint stores work with you to give you an immediate replacement?

I honestly think much of this "bad press" that gets on Engadget affects maybe 2% of EVO users... Let's be honest here, most of the people on this forum right now are a) tech enthusiasts or b) people with issues. Those who don't have problems most likely will not post on a forum. They're too busy enjoying their EVOs... :)

You would need to go back to the retailer (Sprint, RS, Sams, Wirefly) that sold you the phone unless HTC announces a public address to this issue.

Not a knock against your comment, but HTC isn't going to publicly address this or anything. If anything it will be fixed quietly in a later production run. Use your EVO, enjoy it. Many reviewers pointed out this flaw and still gave the phone extremely high marks. If the problem worsens, you will have the 1 year warranty to fall back on - or TEP.

It is good to see it getting attention, though.

Just an indirect question. Would I really have to go back to Wirefly? I am not aware of them providing any coverage or anything beyond 30 days. I thought post-30 days the repair process/warranty situation reverted back to Sprint and that I would be eligible to walk into a Sprint store and be helped as if I purchased it there.

Wait... doesn't the fact that I have TEP make this a moot point? That repair/replace/insurance covered under TEP affects those stores too, right? I don't have to involve Wirefly at all?

Sorry if this sounds dumb. I am out of it today and I am overly paranoid about my new purchase. I do understand I need to just relax, use and enjoy it!

Damn...time and time again early adopters are getting screwed...when will it stop? :|
You can hate on HTC all you want, but believe me, there are serious quality issues with just about every phone made by anyone, even Apple...Sometimes the issues are big enough to hit front page when people are talking about it for a day or so, but lot of times you won't even hear about them because they'll get fixed so fast...it's just cheaper for them to get the device out there than it is sitting on it perfecting the software \ hardware...but that's just the way the industry goes I guess, it's all about getting the product to market.

You can tell just by looking at the teardown photo that there's literally _no_ adhesive in the lower left corner, and that's why the screen is lifting...

One more thing, I know the guy who posted about the clamp \ hairdryer probably meant well, but don't bother with that unless you have no other options left. Take the phone back, even twice or three times if you have to, until you get a good one. It's a pain in the ass to go through that process, but make them (whoever you bought the phone from) see it that way...raise a stink, cause some hell...link to this thread, the engadget article, the htc community forums...do what ya gotta do to get hooked up :) Mention the iPhone and threaten to switch to AT&T lol :)

This isn't really that dire of a problem even if you may think that it is, getting a replacement phone isn't going to fix a thing at this point.

Yeah I took mine out of its case and turned out the lights, and sure enough if I look real hard i can see some light coming through. All across the bottom.
Really doesn't seem like something to get all worked up about. I mean i have take it out of the case, turn out the lights, and look real hard to see it. If it gets bad I will just return it. No big deal. The phone is my favorite ever. Sure seems that some are just looking for a problem.

So, what's the story here?

I purchased this through Radio Shack?

What options do I have? I don't want to read the entire thread.

By the way, mine is perfect.

But in 2 months? 6 months from now?

Well you have a year warranty. You will get a refurb the way I understand it.

This is how mine is also. Im sure they will all do this.

So my screen is showing very minor signs of lifting lower left. I didnt get the insurance, should i return with in 30 days or 90 to get a new phone? Repeat cycle until a good phone is obtained?]]

Purchased at sprint store release day.

its good press

Companies need to be held responsible for their work

This is, the consumer... reaching out to the companies responsible

Will/When will they respond is the question

So mine's doing this too except on the right side, in the middle of the screen. I actually discovered it when I felt the edge of the glass above the plastic. If you run your finger across it you can feel your finger catch on the glass. Looked at it in the dark and there was definite light leakage where this is occurring.

I've had my Evo for almost exactly a week now. No issues so far... It's seen some serious heat and humidity here in Houston (both in and out of vehicles) and has been dropped once:

I am just curious if anyone has yet. I was just reading the light leakage threads even though the light leakage has not bothered me, but when I started looking at the phone I noticed that the bottom of the screen is moving up and down alot. Really has me concerned, if I take it back do I take it to a sprint store or back to the shack.
By the way MHO is the build quality on this phone is very poor, where as the hero I had was top notch.
I have a video here in the key test thread, and toward the end I show the screen coming up.

Mine had the same issue I took it back to the shack and got another one. And guess what? The new has the same exact issue. I really think that HTC's Q&A or lack thereof dropped the ball big time. We should all gather together and demand a recall. Since this is a widespread issue. The phone is great and all and I love it to death, but this totally unacceptable. Some people spent over 500 dollars for this phone. We deserve better. Come on HTC remedy this. :(

What makes you guys think HTC will fix the problem? They never did anything with the Hero. I went through a bunch of those and they all had the dust issue. It asn't like a couple of particles it was was a lot of dust that would get under the screen. I can see this happening to the Evo also. For some reason Htc doesn't know how to seal a screen. Between that and the grounding problem, I guess I'll save my upgrade for the next thing.

While I have no idea whether or not HTC will publicly address/fix the problem, the EVO is a Sprint flagship device and vital to their survival. It is Sprint's iPhone, basically. The HTC Hero was just another phone.

After reading this post. I checked my phone and I have the same problem everyone else is having. This really sucks because I gave up my SERO ($50.00) plan and signed up for the Everything plan ($69.99+$10 premium data) for this phone.

From what I understand, if I'm not happy with the phone I can return it. But, does any one know if I can still go back to my SERO plan?

Hey guys here is a copy of the email I just submitted to HTC. We all deserve better.

I first want to say that I really love the new EVO 4G. My concern is with the build quality. A couple of days after the June 4th launch. I started noticing light leakage from the bottom of the screen. After a closer inspection I observed the glass separating from its frame. I proceeded to take mine back. Well needless the same I'm having the same issue with my second one. Totally unacceptable quality for the Sprint flagship phone. There are hundreds if not thousands of us with the same issue. We all spent good money for this phone and I and the rest of us from the Android Forums demand that HTC formally recognizes their failure in the Q&A department, and either replace our phones with non defects or issue a widespread recall. I guarantee HTC will have repercussions if this issue is not resolved satisfactorily. I am confident that HTC will resolve this problem promptly. At Least I hope so. Here is a link. Please read.

HTC EVO suffering from glass separation issues? -- Engadget

If anyone else (which it appears many of us) are having the glass separating issue. Please let your voice be heard in the HTC support forum here is the link.

Im not to worried. Got the insurance, I have a little light leak and my screen does seem to push down a little bit. I will just wait until it breaks take it to the sprint store and have it replaced. Hopefully mine lasts 2 years like my launch 360 did and I wont haft to worry about it.

Just posted over at the HTC forums. Could you also post the email address that you sent this to as well.
Thanks

Well me EVO is on its way. So i dont know if mine will have this issue or not at this point.

However, what is the worst this can realistically do? Are we talking about the screen lifting the tiniest amount and maybe getting some dust in their? Or has someone had a screen that just fell right off? Does this movement of the screen change the touch sensitivity or performance of the phone in any way? I am not arguing i am really asking. I am trying to figure out if this is something that will cause product failure down the road. If dust is the biggest fear wouldnt a case like innocase or body glove keep the dust out? Also cant we just have our phones fixed in like 6 months if we have dust because of this? Sure we shouldnt have to and no one wants to. But dont we have that option. Also doesnt the evo plan make us all eligible for an upgrade in a year? I dont know if i could ever be happy keeping a phone for 2 years anyway.

Thanks guys. This issue does suck for those with rising screens. Who knows in 2 days i may be in that group also.
