Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

nonsense.

I just wonder how he/she assumes or thinks its maybe only 3%?
I can assume too. I assume its 5%. Out of (again only assuming) 300,000 thats 15,000.
Quite frankly 15,000 to many. Come on HTC I love ya. Lets get some quality phones out in the
next batch. I have faith in you.

I dont know for sure its only 3%, but 3% of the approx 300000 units they supposedly sold on this initial roll out would come to 9000 defective ones..I dont think more than a couple hundred people here, at the most have posted this issue, and, since this is probably the number ! board for evo users out there, its probably pretty representative of what is out in circulation..
At Sprintusers.com, hardly anyone is posting about this issue, and at android central, there aren't that many either..
Draw your own conclusions about how many there are out there with this issue, but I doubt its not that much more than 9000 units, if that many..
I do think HTC has to show concern for this issue, especially in light of the nightmare that Verizon Incredible users went through with dropped signal strength and atrocious call quality..

I just tend to disagree just a bit since I assume 5%. Which a 2% differential between us is not even worth arguing over. I just stopped by a sprint store that is also a repair center to shoot the breeze and the repair tech said that it was a known issue. And that it has gotten to the point that they are checking their own stock and sending back at least 10% of their inventory, so that way they don't sell any bad ones to their customers since they hate returns. Just my 2 pennies. Its sad that Sprint has to do their own quality control, when it should be HTC's job. But anyhow I'm confident my 3rd EVO will be a charm. ;)

I am going to call Sprint tomorrow for a replacement. Not dealing with Best Buy...I am sure they dont even have any.
I have light leak.

lets hope so, since no one should have to return a electronic toy more than one time for any reason, let alone twice..

If you bought yours at Best Buy, don't you have to return it to them if you need a replacement??

I got mine at Radio Shack, I am waiting for them to get some more in stock. The sprint corporate stores said I have to return it at the place of purchase. So I am sure if anyone bought theirs at Best Buy it would be the same deal.

It's iffy at best whether RS and BB will get enough stock to exchange, Most are still backed-up on pre-orders post 6/4. Afraid folks will have to wait until after 7/4 to start the exchange process at a Sprint store.

the fact that BB ran the EVO as a Fathers Day gift idea probably put them in an even worse back order situation...

I exchanged at BB. When I went in they obviously didn't have any but put me on the top of the list since it was an exchange. Got a call 2 days later. When I went in they told me they had only received 2 Evo's and this was their first shipment since launch.

Another thing I noticed on my replacement phone... it doesn't seem to have the grounding issue. With my original phone, I got no response on the status bar when the phone was on certain surfaces. My new one has full response.

As far as throwing a percentage out there of affected phones, that's hard to quantify. There are a lot of people that have the problem that won't post on the web about it, some people that just dont care, those that return theirs and don't feel the need to gripe about it on the web, etc.

For me, both EVOs I got on launch day from the Shack had the light leakage issue. My wife's is very hard to see unless in a very dark room. My original one was bad enough to see it in a well lit room and under all four buttons. My friend has minor leakage also.

I'm just glad HTC was able to acknowledge that it is an issue and they did something about it for me. Hopefully they can fix this issue as a whole. It may or may not just be a cosmetic issue, but when a person buys a product, they want it to be aesthetically and functionally correct. Nobody would buy a new top of the line car with lopsided fenders. They would never accept "Oh, it's just a cosmetic defect."

Day 2 and it is still holding up :) BTW, here's a few shots while I "clamped" down my wifes evo...

The glass is no longer sticking above the bezel.

It probably won't work for everyone but it's worth a try. Might buy you some time before the next batch of Evos come in.

Blake,

Is this fix still holding up?

I try and get some images tonight, but mine looks a little worse than the before picture... there is some weird anomaly below the "buttons" and above the edge of the screen. you can see it in a normally lit room (at work at my desk with direct overhead lighting, if you cover the light sensor on the top of the phone so the LEDs kick in). While the glass is above the bezel you cannot put a "Blockbuster Card" under the glass...

I will edit this post to add the pics.

After 2 weeks of use...my screen did come lose at the bottom with light leakage. I was still within my 30 day return with BB & and I returned it today. I am now waiting to get a new one!

It took a week to get my replacement in from RS

Its been over 2 weeks and RS still hasn't had any in stock to exchange out for me. I have even called all the Radio Shacks in a 200 mile radius and they are all out. This sucks because my glass is so f*ked up that I don't even carry the phone with me any more for fear of it screwing something else up then RS will tell me that I'm SOL, not to mention when I pull it out people are like what the hell is wrong with your phone? Sprint should take care of the people that bought phones else where instead of giving them the run around. They gave me 3 options. 1. take it back to RS and get it exchanged for free ( I'm like free? I paid over 200$ for it.) 2. Use my insurance pay the 100$ dollar deductible and get a new one. 3. Get a refurb upon availability without paying the deductible. What a crock of S*it. I have had an optimistic attitude and have been very patient. But its been 2 weeks or so and I'm still stuck with my defective phone. I am getting to the point that I just want to return it and use my old ass Katana 2 till HTC can ship me a new phone. By the way HTC gave me a 3-6 week time frame in receiving a replacement through their 1 year manufactuers warranty. But I will have to wait til my 30 days are up. Thats two more weeks plus the 3-6 weeks. Thats like 2 months of waiting for a new phone through them. I'm not a happy camper! Sorry for ranting guys.:mad::(:(:(

I have to put up with this. :(

As you can see I took this pic in a well lighted room.

HOLY CRAP! That is really bad! Has it been that bad the whole time or has it slowly progressed (digressed?) into that? I do have a little light leakage but nothing like that. I've had mine less than a week.

I did buy mine at the Sprint store but I'm weary about getting a replacement right now before the corrected batch hits stores.

Are you noticing any dust under the glass?

At first it was slight light leakage. And slowly progressed in to what I got now. I think that living in a humid climate such as myself worsens the separation. Well on the not so bright side (no pun intended) I can use my light leakage as 4 led flashlight. HEHEHE! Not so funny though. :(

I don't even take the phone out any more for fear of it getting worst so it stays home where my Iphone loving friends cant see it and laugh at me. So no I haven't seen any dust yet. But then again I'm not even giving it a chance to accumulate.

This is the worst I have ever seen on any phone not just the evo. WOW, this is crazy. Why not just return it and save your upgrade until they get this straightened out?

Are your LED colors not the same also? hehe you should definitely email HTC directly and also call them. You might get lucky like I did and a manager might ask for pictures. It took 1 day after I sent my pics in to get a call from a manager who sent me out a new phone overnight.

I just purchased my evo last thrusday from walmart. Didn't notice any light issues until saturday which seemed to be only on the right side. Monday I noticed leakage on the left side as well. Will be exchanging mine soon

Well guys I returned my EVO today at Radio Shack. They have been out for over a week and will be out for quite awhile. So I exchanged it for this POS

CIMG1865450x300.jpg

They put the rest of the money on a gift card and will call me as soon as they get more EVO's in. Then I will exchange this POS for a new and hopefully non defective EVO.:) My EVO got so bad that the top half of the screen would not respond to the touch . I couldnt slide down the window shade. They told me if I outright returned it that I could lose my upgrade eligibility through them, not through sprint but through them. I dont know it my be BS so they wouldnt lose a sale. But at least I have a phone for now untill they get more EVO's in stock. I just hope they get some quick cuz I cant stand this POS. Well that person that got another one shipped over night well lucky you. HTC told me Id had to wait till my 30 days were up with RS in order for them to even do something for me. I guess they just give preferential treatment to some people. All I know is that I want my EVO and I want it now!!:(:(

I pre-ordered two Evos from Radio Shack. After a week of use, both phones had the screen separation problem. I was able to semi-fix my Evo, but my wifes phone was beyond repair. After two weeks of screwing around with Radio Shack, I decided to return both of them...but here's what what i did...

1. Found a Sprint store with two Evos in stock and added two new lines (yes with new phone numbers)

2. Returned the original phones back to Radio Shack. They gave me a full refund and told me to call Sprint to do the actual line cancellation.

3. Called Sprint, had them swap my original numbers to the new Evos and cancel out the new numbers.

The next day I checked my account and everything switched well! It's a pain in the butt, but I no longer have to deal with Radio Shack. I now have two perfect Evos with my original numbers.

What about your two 50 dollar gift cards? Did you have to do that 100x2 mail in rebate with sprint. I dont want have to go through that. Thats why im waiting for the Shack to come through and give me a non defective EVO. How are your new ones? Any issues?

Gift cards were not refundable, but I knew that when I purchased the phones. Yup, $100 main in rebate w/sprint.

Well guys I am happy to say that after bothering HTC they finally conceded and overnighted me my 3rd EVO. WITH NO DEFECTS. The even threw in a free silicone case for my troubles. :D:D:D They gave me a box to ship back the defect which I happily shipped this morning. Im glad cuz RS is still sold out and who knows when they will be getting more. For all you people having the same issue as me. Just keep bugging HTC and they will concede. Good Luck!!!!
