Anyone Seen a Desktop Dock?

If yours is like mine was then you should pay close attention to the mount point. Mine only supported the phone by the USB port and a VERY small section of the phone. It was not stable in it. I took mine back and got my money back.

Hmm, yeah that was my initial concern with it, but I guess all units aren't like that?

I've used their docks in the past and they were good quality. They also can fit a case. Still won't do portrait mode, but it's another choice. I personally use the OEM battery charger myself, but I don't really use my phone to watch anything more than YouTube on occasion so it's not a deal breaker for me.

Just another thought....why the big need for a spare battery? If you are at home you can plug it into the desktop dock , if you are in the car you use the car charger, if you work in an office you use the USB charger. The S3 has (according to "Which?") the best battery life of ANY phone and in my case (1 month usage) I have never come anywhere near to exhausting it. If you really need a spare fully charged battery, put the spare battery in your phone, charge it and put it to one side!
Samsung are driven by the market and I would suggest that their market research probably told them that there was no need for a "charge phone and 2nd battery) dock?

I'm not sure how important it is to other people, but I wouldn't call it a big need. It's just good to have a spare ready to go for those days when you're outside all day or moving around so much you don't have time to tether it to an outlet. Plus I'd imagine listening to music and taking pictures/video over the course of the day would strain that battery. Having the spare ready sure beats thinking about budgeting your use.

I also would prefer not to keep pulling off my case and battery cover to keep charging the two batteries. Not too bad when you only have to do that if/when you need a fresh battery.

If Samsung didn't see a need for a spare battery they wouldn't be selling a spare battery charger with a spare battery. I just wonder why they didn't just add the usb port to it since they obviously had the intention to release a phone charging dock.

So the obvious question is "how long does a fully charged battery hold it's charge when not inside the phone"?

undoubtedly MUCH longer than when inside the phone. since the S III (and every other mobile phone in existence afaik) uses a digital power switch, it is constantly drawing power whenever power is available.

So, as I say, you could charge a second battery up inside your phone - say when you were asleep - then it may be good to go for a week or more. Easier than shelling out for a dock.

but that isnt as convenient as having a dock that could charge both at the same time. say you just got back from a day where you were out in the middle of nowhere and drained both your batteries. its 2 am, youve got to be up at 7, and youre going to need both batteries again. what do you do, set an alarm for 4 and hope the first battery is charged to swap out for the second?

yes, this is kind of extreme, but im too lazy to come up with a less extreme situation... and i dont even want a dock, just trying to help show the point of view of those here that do

I just bought this: Dual Sync Charger Cradle Dock Battery For Samsung Galaxy S3 III I747 I535 | eBay

It's a desktop dock and it charges a spare battery at the same time. It's dirt cheap, so I took a chance. Samsung makes a spare battery charger and while it can hold the phone, it doesn't have a micro USB in the dock itself, which is annoying.

Here's an update on this charger... I've been using it for two days and it's absolutely perfect. It charges and docs the phone and even though it's a nice, sturdy fit... there's a little bit of room left around the sides and front, so it may even work with a thin case. The back of the dock can hold an extra battery and I've been charging both at the same time.

It's not as flimsy or junky looking as I would have thought. It's actually quite sleek and looks great on my desk. I'm glad I took a chance on it and I'd highly recommend it for any S3 owner!

Thanks for the update! I wonder if it can fit with a Diztronic TPU on it...

just bought this one, then realized it was coming from China, and said that it might take up to a month :(

Yea, I've been watching these on Amazon (both versions) and same thing. It's called RND there though. Just may have to settle for another one for now and perhaps pick up the RND/Kidigi later for work or home.

edit: found this and it's in stock EZOPower Sync Transfer USB Dual Dock Cradle Desktop Charger with Spare Battery Charging Slot with Detachable Case Plate for Samsung Galaxy S3 SIII i9300 $21.99

this one includes 2 extra batteries: EZOPower Sync Transfer USB Dual Dock Cradle Desktop Charger with Spare Battery Charging Slot with Detachable Case Plate + EZOPower 2100mAh Standard Battery ( 2 Pack ) $29.99

Seems like EZOPower overall has pretty good reviews for their products.

Amazon.com: Sinjimoru Sync and Charge Dock Stand for Samsung Galaxy S3, S2, SII, i9100, Verizon Galaxy Nexus by Samsung (Color Option: BLACK - Micro USB Cable Included)

I have 2 of these and they work even with the Seidio Active case. One for home and one for the office. I have not been needing it much during the day, unless I am plugging in to my laptop. The battery is strong throughout the day.

agree about the battery. I've got docks at work and home, and just got my Infuse dock for my car, but I gotta say the battery on the S3 has been a fantastic surprise!! Goes all day, even under hard use it's been holding up well.

I haven't got any complaints... it stands up fine. The only negative is that putting the thing together was a task the first time. the second one slid together easily. Practice makes perfect I guess. You might want to read the customer comments at Amazon.

I picked this one up today at Fry's for $35.00. It was originally $50.00 but the guy who sold it to me price matched it when I used the ole' red laser app. Going to use this little guy at work.

The one thing I miss about my Evo is the kick stand, so I figured it would be a worth while purchase.

Doe anyone know if this will work with a case on the phone? I have the Platinum case I bought at BB.

straight from the description on Amazon:

"The Multimedia Dock is truly versatile, functioning with or without a Samsung Flip Cover or Samsung Protective Cover installed...The newly designed desktop dock is compatible with the Galaxy S III as well as other Samsung handsets such as the Galaxy Note and Galaxy Nexus."

Read the comments as well, a lot of times people put which case they are or have tried using with the docks. And you may want to know that this particular dock is not S3 specific which may be the reason why other cases will fit. But again, check out the comments to see if someone is using a case you like. I think for the most part you need a slim case if that helps.

I'm just catching up on this thread. Looks like a couple good options listed now for charger that does both the phone and spare battery at the same time. I noticed the Amazon like has an AC adapter, but the ebay link does not.

On the topic of charging 2 batteries, I often fly for 12 hours overseas. A single battery will not last. So being able to charge both at the same time is a big convenience. Swapping is a PITA, because normally I charge them over night (when I am not using the phone). Then if I'm always charging 1 battery over night.. how will I ever get 2 batteries charged up?.. Hmmm.. a charger that charges batteries separate from the phone. :)

And to answer the question about discharge rates. Lithium Ion batteries hold their charge a very long time, losing only about 10% of their charge over 30 days. So charging them up a couple days ahead of a trip has no significant impact on battery life.

If you are flying I would imagine they would ask you to turn your phone off? The battery on the GS3 lasts for over a day with typical usage.
