When using exchange with a pin that has a 15 minute time expiry, you can use the power button and turn off the screen and the password timer still works. However I have not found an app that can turn off the screen without invoking the PIN requirement.
I also found that the note 3 Samsung flip can turn the screen on and off without invoking the pin. But then I found a bug. If you are on a Bluetooth connection, make a call and end with the Bluetooth device, the pin lock is activated automatically. So in car with a Bluetooth is a pain.
