Anyone taking it back tomorrow?

Starting to wonder if I made the right choice. Was over at the Gnex camp and saw they already have a bunch of available ROMS and we've got...well,crap for choices. That bugs me a bit. There are some things I'd like changed, like toggles on the pulldown. And I like variety and I'm just not seeing anything for the Razr. And it's really ticking me off that Moto won't unlock the bootloader even though Sammy and now HTC is unlocking theirs on the Verizon network even though Moto blew some smoke about Verizon preventing them from unlocking. If that were true, HTC couldn't so it's a obvious lie and that really ticks me off. This phone would be unstoppable with a unlocked bootloader....

The GNex is a dev's dream phone. It's understandable that it has more ROMs that the Razr (or probably any other phone, if not right now, then it won't be long until it does).
If your primary focus for a phone is changing ROMs every so often, the the GNex is going to be the best choice.

I for one don't have a problem with Razr on it's stock ROM (though I did change the launcher). I'm one of the ones who lives in an area where the GNex just can't hold a signal, whereas the Razr works great. For that reason alone, I'll stick with the Razr.

I really like my RAZR, no showstopper issues so far, got it on 11-11-2011... but if you factor in custom ROMs...the best phone overall for some ppl right now might be the Rezound. Unless custom ROMs is the thing you like more than anything else about your phone than the G Nex without a doubt is the choice for you.

The G Nex phone issues and ICS being a new OS, radically different than anything on Android phones so far...Rezound and RAZR forums dont have as many complaints as the G Nex section about phone functionality. Bionic doesnt either to me, although some updates helped the Bionic. I live n work in a bad reception area...so reception and battery life is my biggest want n need. If you're in a good to great reception area...the G Nex shouldnt give one too many problems. Some of us need need reliable phone reception.

All I know is I'm kinda torn about even opening the G Nex from Fedex. Maybe I can refuse it? lol. Curiosity n all I think I will at least test it. Might grab a Rezound too.

I understand the Gnex is a developer phone and will have more ROMS but c'mon! Throw some bones to the Razr too at least! I'm not asking for a huge stable of em but how about 4? 5?? Is that too much to ask? 6 or 7? Something at least, sheesh....to have squat this long worries me.....

You wont believe it....but stuff I forgot about with the G Nex that didnt have to do with reception.... I reminded myself about by posting at another site....I think I still have G Nex fever...lol.

I'm thinking about not even opening it and sending it back...

Nah take it for a test spin man.

I was thinking about your quandary while hot swapping my 32 GB memory card, and...what was the issue again? ;)

Having lived in the locked bootloader world of the Droid X, I didn't have too many illusions. I think the biggest dev issue is the lack of an SBF, which to me is the real puzzler.

Pull-down toggle mod is already available for the Razr. I do not know what other forums you read, but you are not reading the right ones.

The fastboot files ( basically the same thing as SBF and is flashed thru rsd lite ) have been leaked. ROMs should start to get pumped out in the near future now that we don't have to worry about soft bricking our phones. Check out the root section.

Kernel and rom junkies will probably be cold turkey with the Razr, but the reasons I would rom on the Incredible was for better radio, performance, battery life, bloat freezing and tethering.

I have all those things already with the Razr, plus better storage options, reception (phone and wifi), call quality, Webtop and better touch response (emulators so far are a weaker experience on the Nexus and Rezound).

Still, if you are a mod junky and need your constant fix, the Razr is not the right device. That said, if you frequent the boonies or need good wifi range, the Gnex is not your right device either.

finally made what i think is a pretty easy decision today. Sticking with Razr and not Nex. Just think this phone is too good to get rid of

There will always be a better phone. The Nexus will be overdone in a few months by another phone. It's a vicious cycle that people seems to fall for all the time. But hey, if you can afford it, then go for it. I'm happy with my Droid Razr because it's allowing me to do stuff that I couldn't with my Droid X. I mean, I upgraded. I read the reviews, played with the phone and told myself that this is the phone I will play with until my next earlier upgrade. Not looking to trade it in anytime soon. Yes, the battery life might suck, but some women have small tits and dudes have small penises. Basically, nothing is perfect.

Not seeing anything to trump the Razr until we see a 28nm radio, 720p samoled display and a quad core to support it..PLUS a removable battery and sd slot (of course).

ALL in the same device.

I agree with Rushmore.

Its quite amazing how much the guys at Motorola were able to fit into the crammed Razr body.

The upcoming 28nm 4g chips (or w/e it was u guys were talking about) should greatly improve battery life and efficiency.

As with any technology, its depreciation (in terms of being the "best") is inevitable.

I'm a college student and for me the Razr is my first smartphone. I'm already having a blast learning to make small android apps, and I can see this phone lasting me for 2 yrs until my contract ends.

As long as I can call, text, and do cool things like go on youtube on my phone, I'm fine :) Hell I can code on our AFS machines from my phone using SSH mobile... so awesome!

Just as with my computer (i5 2500k, ati radeon hd 6870, 16gb ram), my phone should be something that does basic tasks I need to do and then some. It doesn't have to be top of line, but enough that I can mess around on it and enjoy the product :)

So, did you get a Gnex yet man? If so how good/bad is it?

I have both the Nexus and the Razr. Have had the Gnex since Dec 15 but taking it back tomorrow since I have until the 15th of Jan to return it. Have had issues with the speakerphone and my earpiece. Other person sounds like they are breaking up if there is the least amount of background noise. For anyone reading this post and trying to decide I have had zero issues with the Razr and even purchased my wife the white Razr for Christmas. I have had the Razr since 11/11 at 11:11 am. It is my phone of chose and have never been a big Moto fan but am now.

^ I had my RAZR since 11-11 too... and so far no show stopper, deal breaker issues yet. Its been a very nice overall experience with the RAZR. Moto really did a good job with it.

I missed the delivery. Will try to get it tomorrow. I decided to go ahead and check it out. I have a Droid 1 I had to sbf back to 2.0.1....so it will be going up against an old OS with old basebands too....

IF......IF reception turns out to be fine vs the OG with old basebands...I have a decision to make. Again...not concerning the RAZR.

I found out today my OG is not good for reception....its great....lol...old basebands n all. And I swear the DX1 and RAZR does better than the OG in the reception dept. That says alot if that holds true. I got some testing to do over the next week with the RAZR, Droid X1, Droid 1 and G Nex. .

A lil update for Trooper....lol It just came. I will take it back to work along with my Droid 1 and RAZR and do some real quick comparisons of some things.

Expect a more detailed post in about a week to 10 days.

Very first thing I notiiced very quickly...the build quailty isnt as bad as some made/make it. In fact...anyone who removed the back on the RAZR....its almost similar on the G Nex to remove it and put it back on. And both are about as thin.

Yea...I will hopefully give a very fair, unbiased opinion of it in about 10 days.

I got my RAZR with the idea of returning it for the Nexus if I liked it better. One thing all the release delays of the Nexus have done is given me time to really like the RAZR. I'll be going by my Verizon store tomorrow to give the Nexus a serious once over, but I'll probably still keep an eye on forums over the next couple of weeks and see how things develop. If nexus users report a lot of issues, or if I'm just not that impressed with a hands on, I think I'll be happy to keep this phone.

For me the only thing that really holds the nexus apart is its being a nexus device and getting prompt upgrades from the source. Also, along with that, I have no doubt that it will end up having a much more robust dev community. I have to say, though, I'm surprised how little hacking I've wanted to do with the RAZR. I had a Fascinate before, and with all the problems that phone had, the dev community was a lifesaver. Got me improved aesthetics and functionality with new ROMs and kernels, improved battery life, improved GPS signal, and really made up for the painfully slow upgrade schedule for that device. But I really like Blur, and am still using stock launcher. I've rooted for Titanium Backup, but aside from that I could really even do fine with the RAZR being totally stock. I do like the idea of being able to fix issues or upgrade with developer ROMs if Moto falls way behind again, though.

So, I'm still pretty on the fence about keeping this or switching to the Nexus. Anybody else have thoughts on that?

Hey jroc,

Thanks for the info so far man. I am looking forward to your review. I agree with you on the build as I have had one in hand, its not as bad as most make it seem.

I'm still on the fence about getting one. I may bite, but, I also may be going to ATT and wait till they get it, which I'm hearing will be soon enough.

Appreciate your post.

Thanks!
