Help Anyone that has downloaded the Chinese 2.2 or Icarus

i tried 2.2 but couldnt get it to set up data service :(

i ended up going w/ Icarus and im really liking it so far.

Haha, the first thing I did was download Angry Birds. It still runs the same, so I'm guessing since we don't have a dedicated GPU it might always be like that. The phone is overall slightly better in performance, so I'm waiting to see what it will be like once we get the OC kernel going. The main issue that was getting to me was when I would select to make a call, it would take 15 seconds to load the dialer. With Icarus, it loads instantly now. Major plus for me.

Thanks for sharing that. I noticed that about the dialer also. Did you use my instructions? If so, how would you rank them>
 
I did use your directions, Joser. I would rate them 10/10. The only thing that got me at one point was that I accidentally unzipped the file on my computer, but realized that I had to have the zipped file onto my phone after reading the directions more, heh.

If I am not mistaken, I would be the noob he referred to here.... and he is right. I have never done anything like this before and it worked wonders.

As for Angry Birds, my experience was different. Upon getting the light blue screen with the dark blue edge (representing stone I think.) I pressed the "Call" button. When the menu popped up that listed my previous calls I then pressed the "Back" Button. After that it started.

I am not sure this will work for everyone. I tried it on my Wife's Ascend. She still uses the stock 2.1 and it did not do well.

As for running it, it is a little better than tolerable for me. I do not think it is lagging as bad as some other results that I have read. I am anxious to check out Angry Turds though.

Developer Rovio is hard at work on a version of Angry Birds optimized for low-end phone.
 
I know this is not an angry birds thread, but it is my duty to inform all that u can play angry birds with the stock ROM. All u have to do is press the power button when u see colors and hear the music. The screen will turn black. Now press the power button to turn the screen on again, unlock, and enjoy endless battles with little piggies.
 
I never had the screen glitch. For me, when i tried to play it, It would take 5 minutes for for me to pull the sling back, release and watch the bird lag its way across the screen, lol

Hey Papamalo, this is Jose, creator of the How To Install Icarus MOD thread. First of all, it is not an app, it is like a phone makeover. And yes, it will make your Ascend perform faster and smoother.

Well, MMS is not working, but there is a fix. Also, Swype is not working. That is it. Drawbacks- Future Android 2.2 update can not be installed correctly but it is not really a problem since part of the instructions is to make a backup, so you can always restore around the tme the update comes or is announced. So it is not really a problem
 
I was going to install today but did not get around to it. I plan on trying out Icarus tomorrow after the superbowl.
