Root Anyone Using ADWLauncher EX yet?

Interesting, but It better perform better than Launcher pro. transition effects are nice, but not if they lag my phone. It's bad enough already.

That's what I'm afraid of. It seems to have a lot of bells & whistles but I'm more interested in speed than fluff. ;p

Bit the bullet and bought this app. Although it was pretty and had lots of options, I still found it to be a laggy, memory and battery hog. For as much as it is touted as being a lot faster, it's still not nearly as smooth as LauncherPro (IMHO). I doubt I'll use it ever again unless something drastic changes.

On the plus side: if you don't mind it not being as fast or smooth, it does have some nice features (cosmetic) that make your phone look very cool.

I thought I would give ADW ex a shot just to see what I noticed. My settings are different then most and I have not seen any lag or glitches. I adjust the snap, fling, opening speed, turn off animations and so on. To each their own, it works fine for me.

QUESTION - I downloaded and have been using this ADWLauncher EX, and am very happy with it, but i need to see something on the regular Droid 2 OS. Is there away i can go back to my regular OS without losing all my ADW settings???

I've been using it for sufficient time to assess and to me its significantly better than the current LPP. First its significantly smaller (1.5mb vs 5mb for LPP and 2.3mb for LP) which is the first plus. During SET UP you will get lots of lag because everytime you change something in the settings there's relaunching lag but there is NO lag issue once set up. It is easily as smooth and faster than LP. Live wallpapers thats make LP scroll like crap have virtually no effect on ADW Ex. You set the transition and scroll speeds to maximum the changes are instant enough that you have to set them slower to really enjoy the transition effects. App drawer and general customizing are just better and I like the hidden app drawer (the only thing I liked about the original ADW launcher) and swipe action set up. the market themes still work on Ex and tons are free. the only thing LPP has worth mentioning are the widgets of which I never used ANY. I will go to LPP when its rewritten if its better but the current LPP has easily been one upped. Better be good. I think Go launcher has surpassed LP as well but thats another topic.

I actually purchased and downloaded but I've been too lazy to try it out. I probably wil this week. That said, for me LPP is "good enough", but trying out new stuff is fun.

I finally installed and set this up last night. One thing that I noticed is that, unlike my LPP setup, it seems to be moved out of memory after launching apps pretty often, so there is a delay when pressing home while the app relaunches. That said, I went into CyanogenMod performance settings and set the option to try to keep the launcher in memory, and also restarted the phone (I hadn't done that before, so it's possible there were still remnants of LPP sitting in memory.)

So far, I see nothing earth-shatteringly bad or good about ADW EX. I'll keep it live for a few days and see how I feel after using it for a while.

I'm not doing anything fancy with it - just the default presets, animation at a minimum. I will say that, compared with LPP, ADW EX is very usable if you let it switch back and forth to landscape and portrait. I had to lock LPP into portrait only because it takes too long to redraw the screen when flipping it back and forth between portrait and landscape.

Where possible, I lock most screens to portrait because I don't like waiting for them to switch. About the only app that I use in landscape is the browser, and that's rare.

While I generally agree, when I need to do a lot of typing, I do like to have landscape - I am far more accurate. Messaging, gmail, LastPass, Evernote and SpringPad, as well as the browser - I do like landscape sometimes. I just notice the landscape home on ADW EX when I tilted the phone and hadn't thought about locking it to portrait.

i actually like it more then launcher pro but the only thing is i downloaded this apple theme and it came with a picture well i cant seem to get rid of that picture now. lol i will set my wallpaper to a different picture and then after ten minutes it goes back to that picture that i dislike. but thats the only problem i have so far.

Does anyone know if it has the SMS, Gmail, and missed call counts on the dock like launcher pro?

It doesn't seem to, though perhaps I am missing something.

How do you guys like it compared to Sense?

I am not a big fan of Sense. In particular, I like what ADW Ex and LPP can do to configure the dock the way that I want to, rather than be stuck to the phone, app drawer, and add an item to the home screen actions; I like that I can set the number of home screens to 5 rather than 7; I like that I can resize widgets. That said, if you are particularly fond of Sense, in particular the proprietary Sense widgets, I'd just stay with it. When I run xtrSENSE I realize that what I began to hate about Sense had more to do with the lag in the stock Eris software than it did with the way Sense works.

Ya I agree. I run xtrSense and it's a big improvement over stock. I still notice occasional lag and it makes me consider trying ADW EX, but I'm not sure if it's worth ditching Sense and it's nice widgets. Do you notice much of a speed improvement?

No. In fact, I tried ADW EX on xtrSENSE yesterday, and I found it worse than Sense. One of my widgets occasionally refused to update (it's a clock). That's pretty odd and just unusable. I haven't tried LPP on xtrSENSE yet, though I used to run it - and love it - on xtrROM, and it's what I typically use on non-Sense ROMs.

ok thanks for the advice. Saves me the hassle of trying it out. I think I'll stick with Sense for as long as I stick with xtrSense. I'll keep an eye out for other ROMs in the future but for now I'm content.
