Anyone using Tasker?

For myself, I have two "base" profiles that use a time context. One of these is always active, though they don't overlap; one is for daytime, and the other for nighttime. I then have other profiles that will override these based on calendar events, Wifi proximity, etc.

Great minds!!

Trying to create a task to clear all cache(s) from the Browser. I haven't found a way in tasker to reach those settings? Ideas.

Hi there Everyone! Thank you for the previous answers, thanks to You I was able to solve my problem. However now I have a very weird problem.

I have Tasker installed with many profiles: wifi on-off, bluetooth on-off, airplane mode on-off. Before I had power contros widget which worked fine. Now I installed extended controls but it seems that it is not updated. Example: Tasker turns off wifi at 9:00 in the morning. Before 9:00 extended controls shows that wifi is on (which is true), but after 9:00 tasker turns the wifi off (also disappears from the notification bar) but extended controls is still showing that wifi is on. Why is that? How can that happen? What is the problem? Just for the record I have a Samsung Galaxy S with Android 2.1.
Thank you in advance for your help!

It may just be that the icon just isn't updating. I have an icon to enable/disable key locking. If it is off and a profile calls for it to be on, it turns on but the icon on the screen doesn't know it since it wasn't pressed.

Just a guess...

I know that Pent (Tasker developer) has several issues where he has to "kick" the widget to get things to do what you would think they would do on their own. I still get this problem with GPS once in a while - the Power widget shows that GPS is off, and then I load an app that uses GPS and the GPS icon comes on. Tapping the widget results in no change in the widget display, but a subsequent tap gets things synced up properly.

I have a weird problem with Tasker. At night, I have Tasker setting my ring volume to 0, notification volume to 0, and turning off the notification pulse light. This seems to work fine unless I get a email in my Yahoo app, then the notification light turns on and starts flashing purple. How can I stop Yahoo from flashing the pulse light at night? Is this a different setting than the pulse light?

Does the developer have a preferred channel for communication to him/her?

I got both "No Lock" and "Tasker" on my phone and I have to imagine that between the two, I can do what I want.

What I Want: For my phone to remove the "slide to unlock" screen (which is what No Lock does) but for it to KEEP DISABLE the grip sensors on the Ticker Screen.

This Samsung Continuum phone that I have has a secondary screen at the bottom that can be actived via your own touch. It would seem that currently, with No Lock activated, yes I can hit my power button and immediately use my phone, great hooray awesome. BUT! It also "un-locks" my grip sensors for the Ticker Screen. Oh noes, bad, lame.

Simply want to keep the grip sensors locked while ensuring that I still disable the "slide to lock" screen.

Again, I assume between these programs I can do this? Need some help :)

I am trying to make 2 "profiles as I would term them).

I want one that allows all phone calls to come through at certain volume level, and not let any other notifications come through, no sms, no vibration, and no e-mails.

I then need one to allow everything to come through but set the volumes to a certain setting.

Ok. Did you have a question?

What contexts (under what situation would these profiles be activated) are you intending to use for these profiles? A Tasker profile is made up of at least one context and one task. If there's no context it's really just a task. You'll find it easier to converse with other Tasker users if you're not using your own definition of profile.

I guess I am asking how to set these thinga up. Ok so I am still confused on the difference between the 2 things. I am looking to turn them on manually or set at least one to turn on when the charger is plugged in.

As was previously mentioned, when or under what circumstances are these to be activated?

For the "difference" between the two, you already answered that with:
I want one that allows all phone calls to come through at certain volume level, and not let any other notifications come through, no sms, no vibration, and no e-mails.

I then need one to allow everything to come through but set the volumes to a certain setting.
So start with charger plugged in thing you mentioned by using:
-New (name it whatever you want) > State > Power > Source is Any (already selected), Done.
-New Task (name it whatever you want), select the Plus sign at the bottom right for each new task you are entering.
-New > Audio > Ringer Volume > choose desired level > Done.
-New > Audio > Notification Volume > choose level, I'll assume 0. > Done
Done.

The notification, sms and email sounds are all one setting. When you plug the phone in the sound levels will change to the new ones, when you unplug they will revert to their original values.

Start with that, change things around how you want. Then when you can better figure out what else you want the profiles to do and when, come back and give a little more information.:)

You could also go into the Tasker userguide, there are many profiles there to look at, and even download directly to your phone to get you started.

The profiles I would like to manually turn on, I came from a BB and I miss the ring style profiles and want to be able to duplicate them. I am not sure if I am asking too much as I changed my profiles on my old BB allot depending on the situations and how they arise.

OK I have maid a task like you described before but I can't get it to stop sms vibrating when I set this profile up. I tried to select vibrate on notify both off and on and it did not change. I thought it was due to the main phone settings being set for vibrate. I changed that to off and tried making a profile for every other time I am using the phone and thought I setup the profile to want to vibrate but it still did not work correctly.

I don't know if it has anything to do with the app I am using for SMS, it is handcent. I like the way it works compared to the standard message app but if this is the problem I will delete and go back to stock.

You can disable notifications for SMS within the messaging app. You'll also want to enable vibration in the messaging app (I think you do, anyway).

Then open Tasker and tap the Tasks button. Create a new task by tapping New (upper right) and giving the task a name (i.e. All, Phone & SMS, etc). Tap the "+" (lower left) to add an action to your task, and select Audio > Silent Mode > select Off > Done. Add another action: + > Audio > Ringer Volume > 7 > Done. And one more: + > Audio > Notification Volume > 7 > Done. On the bottom right you can select an icon for this task by tapping the blue circle with the question mark in it. Then press Done again at the lower left of the task editor.

Repeat the process, creating another task that sets silent mode to vibrate (you can likely ignore the ringer and notification volumes). Repeat again, setting silent mode to on if you want.

Now return to your home screen and long-press on an open area and select Widgets > Task, then select on of the tasks you just created (using the drop down list), and tap Make Widget. Repeat for each task you created above.

You should now have some widgets on your home screen that, when tapped, will change your volume settings.

Now to make the SMS notifications. Open Tasker and at the profiles list screen press the menu key and tap Hide Context Selector. If the button says Show Context Selector, just press the back button. Tap New > Event > Phone > Received SMS > Done. This should bring you to the task editor. Tap + > Alert > Notify Sound. Enter a title (i.e. New SMS received), select an icon for the notification (blue circle w/ question mark), check the check box next to "If", in the left box under "If" type %SILENT, in the right box type "off" (without quotes), tap Done. Tap + again, and repeat the process, changing Notify Sound to Notify Vibrate, and "off" (right box under "If") to "vibrate". Repeat the process one more time, changing "Notify Sound" to "Notify", and changing "vibrate" to "on" under "If". Tap Done > Done > Apply.

Now incoming SMS messages will preform an audio notification if Silent Mode is OFF, vibrate notification if Silent Mode is VIBRATE, and a notification without audio or vibration if Silent Mode is ON.

Once this is working, we'll look at replacing all the widgets you just created with a single widget that pops up a menu, if you're interested.

I tried to do some very similiar ring profiles using this reply. I can get most of these to work however I can't get the vibratoin systems to work properly. If I turn off vibrate in every app and then set it to be on in my profiles I create it the vibrations will not work. If I leave the vibrations on in the apps and then ask it to not be on in profles they still vibrate even though I turned it off.

I have a nexus one and would like to create a profile to enable the trackball to answer phone calls. Is this possible with Tasker and if so can someone provide me with some direction?

I supposed the behavior could be different from one device to the next (I've seen instances where one device doesn't behave the same as another). I have vibrate enabled in all of may apps, and I am able to enable/disable it globally via Tasker. You might want to visit the tasker forums and see if anyone there has the same experience with the same device.

I don't know it there are any trackball related contexts (I have a Droid, and some things don't appear in Tasker if they're not supported on the device you're using it on), but there is a "Take Call" action that would cause the call to be answered.

Mike thanks for the replies. I was not selecting the silent mode feature and I think that was what was doing me in. I have it working as I wanted it. I just have to figure out how to setup these profiles to turn on and off automatically. The silent one I have setup to turn off when unplugged. The others are for when at work(have 2 jobs to add to complication), a default one, and outdoors one were everything is maxed out, and a silent all for meetings and church.

Hi, I'm new to using Tasker and seem to get things working fine but am sure that I'm not using the best methods of programming, in particular the use of variables.

I'm trying to set up my phone for a "car mode" style scenario and have so far configured the profile to 'run' when the phone is connected to the car bluetooth and that it's charging on USB - this works fine.
After this I want the tasks to put the screen on, put the media and ringer volumes to max, automatically answer all calls and read out any SMSs that I receive.

Should I just put all of these within one task case? Most examples I see use a variable in place and I was wondering if I should use this?

Thanks for any advice/explanations.

It's really just preference. Some like the variable way of doing it, some prefer to control their profiles differently. Try out both ways and see which you prefer.

Looks like this wasn't answered.

You might have to disable the notification within the Yahoo Mail app. I'm not sure (don't use Yahoo mail) but I know other apps have this problem.

So, many people disable it in the app itself and then create a separate Tasker profile to re-enable the notification whenever they want it to flash.

Can't find the context - "when in call". I have a task that vibrates the phone every minute until it is read. However i do not want the task to run if i am in a call. But i can't seem to find anything to add that in.

Any help please, cheers.
