Anyone using Tasker?

Can I use Component Intent to call the activity "com.antivirus.ui.settings.LocalWipe" so that I can use the AVG antivirus app to remote wipe my phone via an sms? I don't really want to try this out just in case it wipes more than I'm expecting, but should that work? Or is it just better to use the 'recursive' delete directory option in Tasker (which I'm also a little scared to test out).

I have to admit, Tasker is the best thing that's ever happened to Android phones :) Thanks for all you do, Pent!

Now you went and did it. Do you know how long it took him to set up his phone to be just how he wanted it? You and your crazy ideas :-)

I found a really cool background that I want to use, however I use the phone a lot for work and I would prefer to use a more conservative one when at work.

Is it possible for tasker to automatically set one background on weekdays and a different background on evenings & weekends? Is it also possible for tasker to rearrange my icons automatically during a set period of time (like at work) and then change them back during a different period of time?

Thanks.

There is a change wallpaper task that you could use and just set the context for the times you wanted.

I am not sure about the icons though. I am pretty sure you would need to use 2 different launchers and then I am not sure if there is a way for tasker to change your default launcher.

I have different wallapers showing for different profiles, Work, Home, Car, Default, Meeting, Night. Every time a new profile kicks in the associated wallpaper also shows, so I know at a glance which profile my phone went into (I modded the Tasker's Autoprofiles to do this).

I absolutely love Tasker. My profiles are all automated, including volume and Keyguard (e.g., at home, my keyguard is off, at work and default, it's on, etc.; at night, all volume is off except ringer so that emergency calls can come in, but I don't get wakened by texts or emails).

Are these just regular wallpaper files? Because I thought I read somewhere that you couldn't assign Live wallpapers?

Do you use a password, pattern lock, or just the slide-to-unlock? Because I have tried implementing the pattern lock and couldn't get it working properly. I can get it to lock, but it gets flaky when I try unlocking it in a profile

I use dead wallpaper since live ones use too much battery, plus Launcher Pro doesn't support live wallpapers.

In Tasker, I set both Keyguard and Key Pattern on/off in my profiles. I think Keyguard controls the slidescreen and Key Pattern controls the pattern lock. I found that if I only controlled Key Pattern and not Keyguard, the Key Pattern didn't always activate.

Additionally, I found the lock behavior was more reliable when I created subroutines (e.g., Task) that turned both on or both off, than the do it as steps in the profile. Not sure why this was. So my Profiles include volume settings and a "Perform Task" step to turn Lock On (or Off).

My home and work profiles are based on Cell tower states. Unfortunately at both my home and work places the signal strength is low and it drops sometimes. When the signal drops, the tasker profile also exits, and restores the original settings (e.g. ringtone volume high at my workplace).

I was thinking if there was a way to have tasker wait for a few minutes before exiting the profile. If let's say in 5 mins the cell tower becomes available, it should not exit, if cell tower doesn't become available in that time, it can go ahead and exit and restore settings.

I use my home's wifi rather than the Cell towers to activate my Home profile.

I use the Cell Towers (set at 2km) to turn on my Wifi when I'm within range. Then once I get into my driveway and Wifi connects, my Home profile kicks in and stays in until my wifi is no longer connected. And when I'm no longer within the 2km range of my home towers, Wifi turns off.

Is your post cut off b/c you remote wiped your phone and now you can't finish? ;)

Sorry..just not really sure about how activities work, as well as that Tasker action and just can't imaging trying that out b/c of what I may lose that I'm not expecting if AVG antivirus wipes more than just the card. I tried with the 'scan' activity but it didn't seem to do anything.

Hi, I've been using Tasker for a couple of months mainly to switch into aeroplane mode between 23:00 and 06:00, to save battery. I then started playing around with "Near Cell" functionality so when I'm working away it doesn't go into plane mode. Also I only switch on the WIFI when I run an app that needs it. I wanted to stop the WIFI being turned on when I check email while I'm at work so I setup two profiles, home and work each with a cell near context to detect the different cells. This works great and I change the label of an Icon to "At work" or "At home" I then added the IF %ATHOME (which I set to Y or N in the above profiles) matches Y to my task to turn on the WIFI. It just doesn't work, its driving me mad, it should work, anyone had any problems with IFs? Cheers

Try using "1" for Y and "0" for No.

I use that for a lot of variables and it works ok. That might fix the problem.

I am trying to work out a way to check in to Facebook Places using Tasker. The API is available so I guess there is an HTTP Post method but I'm lost at sea with it really.
Anyone smart able to work it out?

Does anyone know how to Enbale -- Use wirelsss networks, GPS, and Enable assisted GPS -- with tasker? Misc only shows GPS and only enables GPS for the apps I specified.

Is there a way to show the current/next calendar event?
The only calendar settings I can find is for profiles to set settings for calendar events.
I wanted to have the current event show in Minimalist Text Widget and I've got everything set except showing the calendar text.
Help!

Why don't you use something like Agenda Widget instead? Many Calendar apps in the Market show readable agendas.

Gemini calendar shows three. Jorte shows a whole day or week...

I have AAW on another screen. I was just wanting to have the next one upcoming event in my MTW. Like Calendr but not a separate app.

I use Wifi Near for when I get home to change the wallpaper and make some changes. When I leave the house, it changes to a standard profile and makes other changes. Then when I get to a place I go a lot, it detects the Wifi there and changes the profile. I don't disable or toggle Wifi.

When I plug in a headset it adjusts for me to play music through my car stereo.

I had it doing a ton of things, but it seems like keeping them simple just works better. But I may change my mind tomorrow. :)

Can someone help me figure out where I've gone wrong? I'm new at this :) I'm trying to put the phone on silent when I'm working (I have an irregular schedule).

I made a profile for state > calendar entry. Then I set it to my google:work calendar and I've tried all the options under available but as I'm testing it tonight, the profile never becomes active, even though I've refreshed the calendar and can see it highlighted in the agenda widget. Thanks for the help.

If your schedule changes that much it would be more simple to use your power button to choose silent.

Here's the wiki site for Tasker. If you go through setting up some of these things you'll learn more about how to set up things that work for you. There is also another Tasker thread you can search on in here with more examples and help.

that's great not! have you looked at the tutorials there as useful as a pair of scissors for a wheat farmer only the wheat farmer might get somewhere after a while. with such a complicated application one aspect of its use should be highlighted followed by an extension to that rule then maybe a small understanding of the software might be developed. I have been trying unsuccessfully to get either maps or places app to automatically either switch on both data and gps but I have not succeeded and have looked hard too find just one simple useful example of how this software works. I have looked through the forums to find help but not one straight forward guide. yours gshock
