I can't really give you an in depth experienced answer, but as a tmobile customer my phone works wherever I'm at in some fashion, worst case scenario-wifi.

I have the nexus 4 and until June 1 I had the $30 100 min unlimited everthing else plan.

I loved the price but for me the 100 mins just were not enough. They were until my dad got a new job and needs to call me more often.

I dont know where you live but I can tell you this if your area is in a great coverage area tmo is 100's of times faster then virgin mobile. I was a boost mobile customer so I am familiar with the 3g speeds of sprint.
My best suggestion, other then look at the coverage map for your area, go get a cheap pay as you go data phone from walmart, on tmo of course, and spend a week or 2 checking out data coverage for your self.

I see, in jacksonville fl, 4mb/s up to 26mb/s depending on where I am in town. There could be faster as well I just have not been in the area where there is.

Also depending on your area tmo is deploying LTE and while the nexus 4 does not officially support LTE its easy to enable.

I have it and for the most part love it. I barely used any minutes before going on the plan, and still don't now that I'm on it. If it is an issue, you can overload your account with more money and can get extra minutes at a rate of 10 cents per minutes. There's also Voice over IP options like Google Voice/GrooveIP combo, Vonage, or Skype. Coverage is going to be dependent on where you live. But if your coverage is sufficient and the minutes aren't an issue, it's one of the best deals out there.

Thanks for the info. I live in the Boston area and they have excellent coverage where I live. I an defiantly making the switch.

I was on the plan briefly to do a comparison speed test to straight talk to see if speeds were cut back on ST.

For 10 bucks more I would just rather have the fully unlimited plan with ST and not worry about the minutes.

If you actually talk on your phone, I agree 100%. Even with the 100 minutes and no freebies, I probably only use about 20-30 a month. I don't even use VoIP that much to be honest. I don't even give out my T-Mobile number because I ported my Verizon number to Google Voice. Now since no one has it except for close family for emergancies, if I want to drop off the map from everyone and not lose functionality of my phone I can. :p

There was no way the 100 minutes was going to work for me. I played with some of the VoIP solutions - they were generally fine on WiFi, but too inconsistent for me on mobile data.

If you actually talk on your phone I think an unlimited minute plan is the best way to go. For me, Solavei was the best value at $49 /month . (T-Mobile MVNO.) The extra $4/month over Straight Talk was worth it for me to have a defined data plan - 4GB unthrottled. Some people on Straight Talk use tons of data with no problems - some get throttled really quickly. I didn't want to deal with that.

I was also intrigued by the Solavei referral program and the possibility of getting the unlimited plan for less especially since I think it's a good deal where it's currently priced.

Solavei is the only one I didn't try but I've heard mostly good things about it. I've seen the same bad reviews about them as ST. More on that later.

I for one am not a heavy data user, 5mbps average, and luckily I've had zero issues with ST. There's been times where I've used a lot of data in a month, 10 to 12mbps, and never a hiccup. I also don't tether and run my house, pc ,car and dog off that connection either. Lol

The people that have issues with these companies are the ones stealing and running their whole damn house on a cheap data plan. Then they go on to complain about how horrible these companies are and this and that giving these companies a bad name.

But the 30 plan is great if minutes really aren't an issue. I was cutting it to close. But mvnos are really the way to go if you want it all, no question.

Two other advantages of Solavei, that other prepaid plans don't seem to have, is data roaming and call forwarding. If you need unlimited talk, it seems to be one of the better options. Of course, if you need unlimited everything, the T-Mobile $70 plan seems to be the best.

I made the same switch (VM to T-Mobile) when Nexus 4 came out Nov last year. Very happy with the switch, VM in my area (San Diego) don't have WiMAX, data speed and coverage are both bad here. T-Mobile coverage is pretty good here.

The 100 min is not an issue for me, if I go over, I just pay 10c a min.

Also, if you have Target Redcard, you can buy refill from them with 5% discount, no tax.
