Anyone with every intention of keeping the Rezound still planning on checking out the GNex?

Nexus lacks USB mass-storage, but it does have MTP, which is directly supported by Windows and can be used w/Mac and Linux with the installation of drivers/apps.

Yeah I meant USB mass storage. I use my phone as an mp3 player. MTP doesn't work well for me because it is so slow and I have about 16gb worth of music on my ReZound with plenty of phone storage if I decide to use it.

When I had my galaxy tab 10, trying to add new music through MTP was maddening. I could only transfer maybe 2-3 folders at a time. When you have over 100 folders worth of music the task can be quite taxing. Im going to check out the phone but I dont think im going to lay down any cash for it.

I do think aside from software, the Rezound is overall an objectively better phone. The pixel density of the display is higher, the rear camera is better, the front camera is better, the included headphones are better, MicroSD card support, and simultaneous voice and 3G data.

The processors of the two phones end up around the same level of performance, same with the graphics chip, only minor differences there. Both devices have LTE support.

Android 4.0(which is coming to the Rezound anyway) and Near Field Communication seem to be the main things the Galaxy Nexus has over the Rezound. The 720P display was the biggest wow factor of the Galaxy Nexus but the Rezound has one too.

Verizon replaced my Droid Charge with the Rezound. This phone is awesome. So awesome that my girl took her bionic back to costco and exchanged it for the Rezound.

I will be getting the Gnex and using it for 13 days. It goes back if it fails to make my toes curl. My logic has more to do with updates than hardware specs. I recently played with a bone stock OG Droid that was fully reset. Vanilla Android is awesome. Android with skins looks great but updates take way to long unless you root and rom. I've done this but I don't have time anymore.

just a heads up on returning your rental Rezound. My experience this morning:

I used an early upgrade instead of a normal upgrade. According to my friend that works there and her boss they won't reset an "early" upgrade like they will on your normally scheduled upgrades. However i can exchange my phone for the G Nex when it lands as long as its before January 15th.

Now if it doesn't come out by then i'll just return my phone. I lose my early upgrade but the good thing is my regularly scheduled upgrade was in March and it will go back to that if i return this phone. I'm fine with that since i'll be out of the country for a month of that time frame.

But what if we have root and an awesome ICS port by then? Hey, a boy can dream, right?

then i may keep it lol

Honestly, I can wait for ICS. In fact, it will probably help enjoy the phone even longer. When I first got my DX, I love it. I rooted, rommed and did all sorts of crazy stuff to it. But it did get a little stale after about 6 months or so. Then in March, a leak of GB dropped and I swear the improvements made the DX feel like a brand new phone. The IU was slicker, cleaner and just more polished. Speed-wise, it felt so much faster. And I could finally watch my 720p encoded mp4s without lag. Gingerbread, without a doubt, prevented me from getting a new phone earlier than I did. In fact, I would never have gotten the D3 if my wife didn't bust her phone this summer. (Gave her my DX and upgraded to what I felt was the best available phone at the time).

I'm hoping that when the rezound finally gets ICS, that's the impact it will have.

yeah but a lot of people are forgetting the ReZound will be getting an HTC version of ICS....not the same ICS we've been seeing on the interwebs for the last 3 months.

Excellent post, well said. I'd just add that Nexus' bright & colorful display may look even better to many users despite the slight sharpness loss from PenTile. Wouldn't mind having the 1850mAh Nexus battery in the Rez either.

I'm at the mall now. I'm lining up for the gnex already!!

It's way too early ha ha - the phone guy said there's no gnex yet. Don't worry i'm not switching phones.... just nosy since everyone here is talking about it. bye

Is it just me or does it seem funny to anyone else when people claim one of the big draws on this phone is the "pure google experience" yet they also list rootability as a big draw. Why would a pure google experience be a big deal to you if you planned on rooting? It almost reminds me of all those iPhone fanboys that claim how stable the iOS is and then they go and jailbreak it.

Oh how I'm glad I got this phone for 50$ its great and hardware is a little better and for 250$ less hey I'm halfway to the transformer prime

Just left Verizon with the plan to exchange for the Nexus and left with my rezound. My greatest concerns were the signal and sound, never had to look any further after comparing signals!
Display Nexus 83 dbm
Display Rezound 58 dbm
Display Razr 53 dBm
My Rezound 56 dbm

My nexus is going back today.

Sitting next to my Old droid x
DX 80dbm
Nex 93dbm

With the Nexus in CDMA only I have terrible reception. Working around heavy equipment having a phone with adequate signal strength can be a huge safety issue if I were to have to make a call.

Im going to play with the Rezound since it seems to be the top dog with the radios right now.

The rezound certainly seems to be the sleeper phone of the group and has performed top notch for me. When i got it i had every intention of returning it for the nexus but like most you just can't let it go. At $199 you can't go wrong! I can only imagine we will see a surge of rezound users at this price.

Question on signal strength. I have the rezound after having the sammy fascinate. I love my rezound but my signal strength sucks. I am lucky to get -86(2bars) but mostly get -95(1bar). My sammy even got a lot better than that. Now I have heard something about removing the battery while phone was on and removing sim card and waiting 5 minutes to turn phone back on. Have not tried that yet as I can't get the sim card out. Seems as in very tight and do not want to force, or should I. I did buy this phone in Indianapolis and live about 70 miles away, would that make a difference. I am really not liking my signal strength at all and need a good phone signal as it is a phone. Does anyone have any suggestions on improving this? I went to our local verizon store (bunch of dick's) hence why I went to Indy. Bought the sammy in AZ. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You on 3G or 3G/4G

You know you have to push down on the tab in front of the SIM card and then with another finger, push the SIM card down past the tab right?

I am on 4g. Doesn't seem to make a difference if I switch to cdma or leave it on lte. I just went for a drive and sat under a tower and still did not get any better. I drive 1/4 mile down the road it gets better then worse. I really just think it is the network. I have been using cell phones for 20+ years and I think this is just part of some growing pains. Hell after I got back home my signal showed 4bars for a while then went to 1 bar and just jumps all over depending on, well I don't know what it depends on. haha I think the phone is just fine, the rezound is a great piece of equipment. I think over time this will all work out. I hope. My real concern is I plan on using my MHS as my home internet connection. Oh, I also walked lliterally about 30 feet from my house and got a great signal. So my conclusion is there is no real fix until verizon gets the bugs worked out, which they will. The iphone sucked with ATT and now with other networks it is fine. Verizon is the leader and will continue to be. Their not going anywhere. Other phones are experiencing the same problems, even moto phones which you will never beat their experience in the radio business, they have been doing it since time began. haha

No, I didn't know that. Thanks I will try. Should I shut phone off first or leave it on and pull everything and then turn it back on? I really just think it is the growing pains of the lte network which will get worked out in time. Just hope its not a lot of time, as I cancelled my home internet supplier and plan on using my MHS. This is a great piece of equipment. I have been reading where a lot of phones are experiencing difficulties with their signals, so I really think it is in the network. We'll see. I live in a campus town that has had lte for about a year and they struggled with it for a couple months, now when you go over there I get full strength signal. This I believe is verizons first experience with sim cards though.

-86 dBm isn't that bad. I average -80 dBm at my house. That's 3 bars. Sometimes it will fluctuate between -80 and -84. But since I don't have 4G at my house I leave it in 3G mode.

Believe it or not, standing directly under a tower will net you less (or a higher dBm reading). I guess the most important question is, are you able to make calls and access data?

Hey TXGOAT, You just hang out on these forums all day or what. haha I see you all over the place. I appreciate it for one. Its people like you that can help us out and give us a little peace of mind as we learn our new devices and technology. I like your little bug thing, its cool. From an old hoosier hillbilly here.

In order to get to the SIM card, you'll have to pull the battery. That's how some people do a "soft" reset, but I've never been a fan of shutting off a device by abruptly pulling off its power supply. Below is a pic, and yes I've been all over this place today, I'm not really a fan of the Ravens, Texans, Giants or Packers ;) .

Thanks, Well I guess it isn't as bad as I thought then, just seems like it jumps around alot. Also reading all these post bitching cause they don't get 58 or whatever. Yes I am able to connect and make calls. Sometimes connecting is kind of slow though, but not bad. Interesting about the tower. Makes some sense though, as I moved about 1/4 mile down road it got real good, then started jumping around again. I still just think it is growing pains. It will get more consistent with time. I appreciate your help and I do feel better about it now. I was just use to my sammy with 3g never having any connection problems and working rather quickly on 3g. I do work at a golf course though and hope that I will get a good signal there, I use it alot to check on weather conditions. I live in Indiana, where the only thing about the weather you can count on is it is going to change. haha
