Right, I've rooted! :) , done the nandroid backup, done titanium and sms backup, created the gold card. So just gotta flash the Rom now, any tips on the best way forward? Or am I good to go?
Oh and before I flash do I do the wipe? Then flash.

Sounds like you are good to go,all you need to do now is choose a rom.

and yes you do need to wipe before installing a new rom.

cool, cheers, ive already picked cyanogen 6.1.1, so ive got the zip file for that, and the gapps and DT. so all being well ill be done soon.

Good general advice, but not always needed if the ROMs are very similar. So while a wipe would be essential for moving from stock to GingerVillain (to pick a random example), it probably wouldn't be needed for installing a rooted stock ROM (if starting from stock).

But even if you think they are close enough that it won't be needed, you should prepare your backups as if it would be, because if there is any problem the first thing you should try is wipe and reinstall and see whether that fixes it. Wiping is always the safe option.

The other thing is, don't restore system settings from Titanium, just apps and data. The reason for doing a wipe is that settings are often incompatible between ROMs, so restoring system settings would negate the point of wiping ;)

Edit:
OK, if you are going for CM then you definately need to wipe first!

ok thanks, when i ran titanium backup i selected apps and system data, is that the right one to have selected? or should i just have selected to backup everything? so i take it when you restore with TB it asks what you want to restore?

LECTER, HA HA HA!!! im nearly done!!! InfernalByte, its the only one ive seen running, but ive just been looking on xda, and i quite like the sound of new sense, i think i would like a gingerbread rom, whats CM7 based on? or there is oxygen or GV?? whats your recommendation???

CM7 has Gingerbread, but you may not realize that you'll need to flash Darktremor (a2sd) separately, and gapps. Leedroid, or GingerVillain will do it all for you.

Am I confusing you a little? You'll get there.

Yes, when you restore you can choose what to restore - no probs.

CM7 is GB. You have to choose between Sense (new or old) and Gingerbread - right now you can't have both.

I like sense but I'm up for trying out different ones. I've got the DT zip ready so that's not a problem, am I right though that currently cm7 doesn't have 720p?

Lol, I might be a filming buff, but to be honest your probably right, I'm sure it will with an update anyway, is gingervillian a stable Rom? What's the latest version? And also is CM7 stable? What are these nightlys I keep reading about? And also lecter, what made you go for the dhd rom?

Don't know anything about those roms but when I went looking for my first rom, I was looking for:

Max internal memory
SPEED
Good looks
Good support

Got all of them except the last one, the dev is a jerk!! Thank god there are a few people on xda who aren't full of themselves!

Do you get all the HTC stuff on it? Friend stream etc? I love the sense on my phone so just gonna be a bit weird without it, ill have a look at CM7 but what I read was its still a little unstable yet.

CM is now in transition between 6 and 7. Nightlies are the experimental builds that are free to download so that fans, purists and others can download/test. Once Cyanogen himself calls a halt to the nightly build there is a short RC phase, (release Candidate) where all the bugs and other issues are fixed. The Bravo (Desire) is now at RC1 shortly, and it may happen tonight, the RC will be removed the rom will get signed and Cyanogen 7.0 will have arrived.

I understood that 720dpi was only a pseudo figure.

well i have just installed cyanogen 6.1.1 and the phone is just booting now, just gotta wait i suppose while it does this? but ive read it takes a while as its building the whole thing. am i right?

cheers infernal, you have been a MASSIVE! help with all this. i reckon ill get a rom bug now, trying out all different ones to find the one i like. which do you run?
