Help AOL Email issue

When my phone retrieves my Email, it gets all the mail on ther server, even the mail I already have read on another computer, and has it marked as "New mail". Any idea on whats wrong? Im getting a little tired of marking 20+ old emails as "read".

Not sure, but should be a setting in the aol to mark read messages. On a side note I did not know AOL was still around. :)

You will do it once, mark all the email as read on you phone and then only new ones will arrive.

Why don't you simply forward your AOL to GMail and have push? It saves a lot of battery life over POP3 too.

I didnt know I could do that. I'll try to set that up

Your real issue (if you haven't solved it yet) is probably that you are operating by POP3 rather than IMAP. Post office proticol is notoriously bad about mirroring changed on multiple clients because it is really just download fresh copies from the server and your changes (such as working as read) are all local and not transmitted back. There have been improvments, and it's not possible for this to happen, but many clients don't bother. If you use IMAP instead the messages on the phone (or other clients) are just images of what is stored on the server and when you mark something as read it is transmitted back to the server and the change should propigate accross all clients.

How can I set it to IMAP?

How can I set it to IMAP?

Go to Settings --> Accounts ->> name of your aol mail account here --> Incoming Server --> and change to IMAP in the drop down at the top.

Of course you will have to also change the server settings to match the AOL IMAP settings ... google is your friend here ... but I took the liberty of pulling what looks like a legitimate response to that question:

What Are the AOL Mail IMAP Settings? - About Email

Good luck.

Or just ditch AOL altogether. People get so hung up about keeping their old email address and old phone numbers.... but the reality is that NO ONE KNOWS your email address or your phone number - except you. So it really doesn't matter what it is. Changing it takes 2 seconds, you send an email out to all your contacts saying "this is my new email/phone, please use this from now on" and they save it to your profile and that's it. Then just set up your AOL to forward any stray emails to your new account and you're done.

Email has come so far since AOL.

Creature of habit I 'spose. Anyway, after changing the settings to the Imap config, it works just fine now. :)

Glad you got it working..... but you might not want to tell too many people you are still using AOL :D
Yeah, I get harassed for using it still, but it works just fine, and I see no difference between it, and the other email servers out there. In fact.....I havent ever had an issue with it, while friends and familly have had problems with the emails they use. SO......I get to throw some crap back once in a while :o
