Help AOL mail stopped working

Pattie

Newbie
My AOL mail, set up with the MAIL app, stopped working today. First, it wouldn't send mail, and kept notifiying me "mail cannot be sent" over and over and over and wouldn't stop. I could receive mail, but not send. Tried taking the battery out, etc, no help. Notifications still kept coming. When I go to the notification that I can't send mail, it asks me to verify my username and password on the account, and it keeps tellling me that authentication failed, and to check the username and password, which is correct. I tried re-entering, no luck. So I deleted the account, and now when I try to set it up again, I'm gettting the same message -- authentication failed, check your username and password, so now I have absolutely no mail on this account.

Will not work for automatic set up or manual set up.

Went to manage apps, cleared the cache, and even hit Force stop. Nothing is working.

Can anyone help me with this?

Is this happening only on 3G or only on WiFi or have you tried both?

I I haven't used AOL mail in a long time, but I'll see if I can set it up. It may take me 'til tomorrow, though. Until then, you are sure that the server names, etc., are all correct? That the password works on a normal PC? Just thinking of the obvious things to check...

Well, after leaving it alone overnight, it is working again. The authentication was successful and the account was set up.

Very strange, my AOL mail was working on my pc at home, at work, just not on the phone. I went to see if it would work on wifi as you suggested, and decided to try one more time.

Thank you for your help. Hopefully it doesn't happen again. Three months and I can upgrade!

I've had the same issue happen to me and this is not the first time it's happened. Last time AOL said they had to fix something and after two days of them tinkering with something I was finally able to set up my AOL mail through the MAIL app.

It was working perfectly fine for me last night but I wake up this morning to the "login failed" and "Authentication failed. Please verify your username/password" messages. I deleted the account & tried to set it up again with no luck.

I don't know if this is another issue with AOL or the MAIL app but please help me fix this.

Thank you!!

One thing to try is to use a mail app on your PC to try to connect to AOL's servers with the same settings for incoming and outgoing mail servers, etc. If it works on your PC but not on your phone, it's likely a phone issue. If it doesn't work on your PC, it's likely the AOL servers are having issues.

It works on my PC without any issues.

Just to clarify, when I say "use a mail app" on your PC, I am definitely not talking about the AOL app or using a web browser - I mean using Windows Mail, Apple Mail.app, Thunderbird, Outlook, etc., to create a mail account and use the same setting for servers that you would use on the phone. The AOL app and a web browser use different methods for accessing mail than an IMAP mail client does.
