Root AOSP Ice cream Sandwich

It'll probably be CM8. Judging by their track record, as soon as the ICS source is dropped they'll stop working on CM7 and move on.

I thought they said something about Honeycomb was suppose to be CM8 but since google aren't releasing the goodies they are going to CM9.

My apologies, you're right:

Thanks again for the support, and for making CyanogenMod the #1 community Android distribution. We’ll be following up with a few minor releases and soon it will be time to start work on CM9!

It's not specific, but it's pretty obvious what CM9 will be. ;)

Maybe the Goog will *finally* release Honeycomb source so they can work on CM8 as well.

Oh no you are good. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't confused, and I thought the source was already released, or it is it just parts of it?

Google has stated that the reason they did not release Honeycomb's source was to prevent tablet specific application building, and thus fragmentation in the application market.

I suspect they will not release Honeycomb's source since ICS is the converging product for phones and tablets.

Not really, no. Besides the fact that WP7/iOS are not opened (and have patents on certain elements of each OS), the point of open source is to be transparent. If I don't like something or I feel like I can improve upon something, I can change at will. Just because something is open sourced, doesn't mean you should go and take other ideas and call them your own.

Exactly, so you improve upon it. It turns out it's better that what already existed, so it becomes integrated. I don't see a problem with this and I certainly wouldn't call it "stealing".

What he means is to do no improvements and instead just take something and flaunt it as yours. Anyone can throw on a theme and repackage it as theirs. Do you draw a line on giving credit to a person who does the most work as opposed to the one who just threw something into it that wasn't even needed? Laws and ethics vary but both should be adhered.

Crazy, So I just noticed on my friends Palm Pre II It has this "Card View" thing. Well apparently ICS has that as well. I read that the guy that worked for HP on the WebOS now works for Android. His name is Matias Duarte. He's currently the director of Android Operating System User Experience at Google. I guess he designed Honeycomb? >_> Interesting.
