App backup App?

RPM_WG

Lurker
I am having a problem with my phone (Samsung Infuse), and need to replace it. I cannot connect to my computer at all with it. I was wondering if there is an app out there that allows me to backup my apps (including the data saved in them) through the WiFi, and not USB cord. I can get a new phone and download all the apps I have again, but all the data I have saved in them (such as game scores and such) will not be there.

Is your phone rooted? I think all of the backup apps that will save your app's data require root.

If you are rooted I recommend Titanium Backup. It will backup all of your apps and data and you can sync that to Dropbox.

I know that there are apps in the Google Play Market that allow you to back-up data to your SD card. I am not sure if you have to be rooted or not. I also know of one in particular, called Titanium Backup, but I am fairly certain that you must be rooted to use it.

If its not rooted, try MyBackup or the app backup from within ES File Explorer - I have used both and they do a pretty good job for app backup.

Cheers..

No, I'm not rooted. How would I go about doing that, and can I still do that with my phone, if it's not working right?

Forget titanium backup, its JUNK,they advertise this and that so you screw up your phone etc advertises will back up system apps which it does not,You will loose them ,Ive reflashed many phones due to people freezing and bricking the phone due to titanium screwing up a system app which causes no boot, also having to replace apps into the phone which was stock
Get androzip pro which is a very reliable backup for your apps addons and backups all your system apps,If you dont have root use his other program

Take my 28 yrs of advise in drives you will come back and give me a Thanks.

Actually titanium backup is a GREAT app! It can back up system apps, which I have done. I have been using TB for a long time and it works exactly as it should.

The problems you talk about happen when people start freezing or uninstalling apps that they shouldn't be. Anytime you don't know what you are doing you should use caution. It isn't an apps fault if it is too powerful and someone screws up their phone because they don't know what they are doing!

Well, since my SD Card cannot be found, I'm using a combonation of AndroZip and Dropbox, and this seems to be working fine for me now. I am currently in the process of uploading my zipped files to dropbox, and hopefully this will work. Thanks everyone.

No problems with Titanium and no relationship with the dev. Check out the reviews too: are you really trying to say all the positive reviews are from friends of the developer?

Nothing to do with freezing and so on,simply stock phone and using titanium to backup pre apps will get the beginner of a phone in problems,it will not reinstall,Apps that come preinstalled per os titanium can never reinstall.
Dont tell me the bs ,u must have some relationship with the dev to sell more of his program, for example go take Write and go which is a preinstalled system app that cant be removed unless your rooted, backup with ti ,remove it ,then try to reinstall,LOL Have fun,This is just an example of just one preinstall.

I also have no relationship at all with the dev, I just don't like seeing a great app bashed because someone messed something up that probably never should have been using the app to begin with. It is the same as someone with a stock phone giving an app that requires root a 1 star rating because it wouldn't work on their phone.

I have used Titanium to back up system apps, move system apps to user space, and of course back up user apps & data. It doesn't always restored all apps' data when changing ROMs (though there is a setting to attempt that, which I've not tried) , but has otherwise always done what it says.

Of course you should nandroid backup before messing with system - at your own risk otherwise. And you want nand security off for doing anything with system apps, which not all rooted devices have. And don't try to restore system data between ROMs! But used with a little care I've never had a problem.

Right now Titanium Backup has 84,017 reviews. Are you honestly trying to tell me that a handful of friends of the dev have flooded the Google Play profile with so many good reviews that they've drowned out the bad ones?

You're welcome to try posting 84,000 bad reviews to try and balance it out. Good luck.

I've been using Titanium Backup for over two years. Never had a problem. And never even read about anyone believing the program was malfunctional... until I read your posts in this thread. You are the only person I've seen to claim there's anything wrong with the program itself. Have fun with your smear campaign.

Sorry, a little off topic...

I'm not looking for an app backup, but rather a general backup solution for a non-rooted phone (GNote LTE). Basically for messages, call logs, etc. The calendar and contacts are no big deal as I can sync Outlook/Hotmail server with no issues so far (also have a separate local backup in place). I understand apps can be redownloaded through Google (least of my concerns). Any good software app that can do that reliably? Any help/suggestions appreciated. Thanks in advance.

MyBackup Pro does what you want (backs up sms / mms messages / call logs). It can backup to your SD card or to the cloud (their servers). You can schedule the backup to run as well.

I have used SMS Backup + and it has worked very well to backup and restore SMS and call logs.

Thanks for the suggestion, chrlswltrs.

But it looks like SMS Backup + needs to backup sync via gmail account which I don't like using except for emails. I ended up buying MyBackup Pro for the SD backup function which I like and prefer. But that's just me...

Thanks anyway for the suggestion. Maybe in future I might reconsider. Still learning about Android and finding workarounds from what I'm used to with WinMo/PalmOS.
