Root app FC, rebooted, phone died.....

i had a problem with my M8 today running the latest ViperOne rom, went to open the Venom Tweaks app and got an FC, first time ever it did this. tried repeatedly to open the Tweaks app and it kept FC. so rebooted the phone in the hope the FC would dissapear, got to the white HTC logo screen, then a black screen and nothing...
tried a couple of soft resets, still nothing...went into recovery (wiped caches first to see if this would fix) and ended up flashing a nandroid backup from a few days ago, phone back to normal..

never had this problem on my M8 before, or any of my previous android phones. happened now and again on my old iPhones tho ;)

what im asking is, is there any easier way of troubleshooting without resorting to going back to a nandroid backup? something maybe in recovery etc that i missed? it wouldn't let me access safe mode.

You can also try to fix the permissions in recovery. TWRP / Advanced / Fix Permissions.

Then Wipe / Dalvik Cache and Cache partition.

Reboot. :)
