[APP] GrooVe IP - Google Voice VoIP

Hi

I just bought your app. It's going to be perfect for when I go to Italy in September. I have a Droid X running rooted and on 2.3.3.

I have my Google Account on 2 factor authentication so I'm thinking I have to give this app the alternate generated pw, right? I tried both ways and it's not working? Will I have to turn off 2 factor auth to have this work?

Please let me know. Thanks

You are correct.

Correct About What? There are multiple questions in there. Please answer them:

2factor authentication - Do I need to use the special pw?
2factor authentication - Do I need to turn it off (if so that sux)?

[SIZE=-1]Don't mean to be a killjoy but i saw a disturbing post in your market posting so I did a little digging, if you have already resolved this issue please pay no heed but if not I'd strongly encourage looking into it with Google before people start losing access to their accounts. I fulling intend to purchase this app as soon as I get paid, the support alone is worth it.

After details provided by our awesome code writer, it has been looked into that there should not be any ToS violation. Hope this helps anyone else that runs into any worries.

I also bought the app because I'm going to Italy. But, I'm going in October. The Droid x is not an international phone. Are you sure it will work in Italy ?

To answer the two open questions, using the app over a wifi connection does not limit you to gobal devices in contries without your signal type, though you will be trapped at coffee shops and probably your hotel for calls only. As for the 2 factor authentication, as the app only supports 1 you will have to turn it off before using. Hope that helps and good luck

Just as a follow-up. The interface we use is published by Google. It's not a hack or anything. It's using the approved, published, documented interface provided by Google. Here's a link that shows how to connected to Google Talk, specifically for developers

Open Communications - Google Talk for Developers - Google Code

Here is the published spec we used to make calls

Google Talk Call Signaling - Google Talk for Developers - Google Code

Actually 2 factor authentication doesn't need to be disabled. You can setup app specific passwords from the google.com/accounts page. Once you generate the app specific password, use that to login via the app.

Love the app but have an issue.
I have a Galaxy Tab 7".
I can make out going call fine.
Have not been able to receive any.
The Galaxy Tab has a build in phone but it is disabled.
It has a phone number, but can't be called.
When I set up Google Voice, I gave it that phone number.
Google Voice wants to call it, but can't.
Is that the reason I can't receive incomming calls?
Or do I have something set up wrong.
Thanks Much.

Hi,

You should give google voice a different number, they just need to verify a phone number. You can give it your home phone number. They will call that phone number and you'll have to enter a verification code. Once that is done go back into your google voice account and disable forwarding to that number and enable forwarding to google chat. That will route calls to google chat and the app. Just be careful because if you're signed in to google chat or talk in other locations with the same account info, google voice may decide to send the calls there instead of to the app.

Hope that helps!

I am having a similar problem registering to the network I have to exit the app every time I change a WiFi network or switch between WiFi and 3g. It makes no difference what direction I go without shutting down and re starting it doesn't re register to the network. I have a long email with dash in it to log on to gv would this affect the log on and cause it to fail I am on a droid2 global.

PS The exit dose work better before this forum I was just turning the phone off and then back on again a little more efficient now. thanks

PSS I also Have two GV accounts any chance in the future of supporting multiple numbers even if an upgrade was need to be purchased would be of great help one number is work and the other personal and want to keep them separate but handy

Hi,

We're looking into the registration issues. We think the sign in may be timing out and not trying again.

I'll write down multiple accounts as a feature request. Thanks!

That worked great. I got you tell you I love this app. I thought it was crazy that the Galaxy Tab phone is locked out. Now it works. I was able to receive incomming calls also. And I really thank you for you FAST response. My wife has a Galaxy Tab also and I will be putting this app on that too. Thanks Again!

No problem. Glad you like the app.

Just bought - looks promising!

Feature request:

Allow user to set a different Google Talk status to be set in each of following conditions:

Groove IP registered - not in call
Groove IP registered - dialing / ringing
Groove IP registered - in call

How do i switch between wifi & 3g? How do I know which one it is using? Will it automatically pick the better of the 2?

Most phones drop the 3G/4G if WiFi is active. Groove IP has a setting to allow/not allow 3G/4G to be used for Groove IP.

That's correct. If you're connected over WiFi then the app will use WiFi. It will only use 3G/4G if you have the checkbox checked.

Oh, ok, thx. I am using an LG Optimus, so I will assume anytime I have a wifi signal on, I am using that.

1 more question: When my phone goes dark, wifi automatically shuts off. So if a call comes in at that time, will the call automatically switch from 3g to wifi once wifi is reactivated due to the screen coming back on (takes about 10 seconds for wifi to reactivate after screen starts)?

1. Look for the Wifi or 3G icon in the notification bar. Whichever one is showing is what you're using.

2. Just set Wifi Sleep Policy to Never. The setting is in the Advanced menu under Wireless. Click Menu AGAIN when in Wifi-Settings.

Read up on the phone. There are many good threads about in the android forums.

Thx for the quick replies! Almost everything seems to be working great. Just 2 things are not functioning while using GrooveIP: the speakerphone on my LG Optimus V & the bluetooth. Small price to pay to keep my minutes down & I gather one day these two issues will be resolved.

Nice app!

Hey, sorry everyone. I never got any notification that there were new posts in this thread. I noticed a few people referencing text messages. We are working on adding text capability into GrooVe IP.

If you're having registration problems and you've moved the app to the sdcard, move it back to the phone.

I moved Groove IP to my SD card and seem to have no problems.

Using Nexus One both with wifi and/or 3G on T Mobile.

For the most part it should work ok. It just reduces our priority. So if you pull up something that takes resources, android may kill our app. Which can cause the unregistered behavior.

A little un-clear about signing out of Google Talk/Voice/Gmail to make
GrooVe IP work.

When I am signed in to my Gmail on my laptop calls to my GV number will
not make my Nexus One ver. 2.3.4 ring.
But while signed into my Gmail account on my phone the GrooVe IP
calls do come thru.

Is there a way to have this work while on my laptop in GMail?

Thanks, love this app!

We're working on it. We got a tip from someone that looks promising.

One way of making it work while in GMail on PC is to disable the Chat feature in the Gmail interface.
