Help App installs don't recognize the SD card

Hoggarth

Lurker
So I'm pretty new to the tablet scene. I got a tablet from T-Mobile when we upgraded a phone last week. It didn't have much internal storage so I put a 32g SD card in it. The card is formatted as internal storage (not portable) and the device itself says used 3.35g out of 31.6g so the tablet recognizes the card.

However, when I go to install a game on it (Inotia 4 currently), I get an insufficient storage space message.

How can I get games to install to the SD card?

Thanks!

Edit: Forgot to mention that it is a Alcatel Pixi 7 tablet (as far as I can tell)

Hi

Does the tablet run Android 6? Only V6 marshmallow can support an sdcard as if it were internal storage. Where did you format the sdcard as internal storage? Once you do that it can only be used in the device that formatted it.

Thanks for the reply.

I actually feel pretty dumb because I failed to process rule #1 ... search the forums. Turns out another thread about SD cards helped a lot. While I had formatted the card correctly, I had not "merged" data, not understanding what that meant. Once I merged the data the apps now install and run properly.

Thanks again and sorry for the lack of research.

sorry for the lack of research.

No need for that. The new Adoptable Storage option in Android 6.x confuses even the best of us, as just about every OEM appears to treat it differently. :)

One tip: be rigorous in backing-up your data. You can't use the card in another device whilst formatted as internal storage.
