[APP] Ivona is one of the better Text-To-Speech alternative I've come across

If you guys are tired of the robotic TTS voice for our phones, you guys should try this app out. It's awesome. I use Amy UK voice. Sounds sexy lol. So far it works for google nav, EVA voice assistance, Iris, any other app that uses the phones built in TTS. IVONA can be found in the Market and require downloading selected voice to your phone.

I think I found out about this app via Androidspin tweet and I'm not sure if this works for all phones so I just posted it here since I know it works for our evo 3d.
 
Ca you report on memory usage? I tried to install IVONA on a LG Optimus V only to have it balk on the download, complaining about 'not enough memory'. How much memory does it need?

Ivona Amy UK voice uses 30.63mb on my phone. The actual Ivona app uses 2.66mb
 
It takes a ton of space up. That's my only gripe about it. It does sound much better than the standard voice by far.
 
I downloaded it yesterday but haven't tried it much yet. I have been using SVOX for over a year now and it is great, much more natural sounding than the default voice. I will be evaluating Ivona and comparing to SVOX over the next couple weeks.

I just want a sexy sounding woman with a british accent on my phone, is that really too much to ask for :cool:
 
I really dont think it takes up a lot of room. Only if you download a lot of voices. You really only need one which is roughly 30mb. 30mb out of my 1000 built in is nothing really.

Thanks for the info on the apps real size. My problem is that while I have a 16gig microSD, the Optimus V only has 178meg internal. 30mb out of 178mb is more of an issue.

That would most likely be due to the different speech synthesis techniques that are used. The custom voices like Amy UK use concatenative speech which uses a database of recorded speech (so technically, there will be someone out there who does indeed speak like Amy). The default voice uses formant speech synthesis (effectively uses rules to generate speech; no database as such) which whilst intelligible, isn't particularly natural. As you'd expect, the database technique requires much more space than the algorithmic technique. :)
