App-Off 1 - Best Note-taking app

Found this list: Android Note Taking Apps | note-taking.net

On my PC I use OneNote and I love it. One Note is one of the best Microsoft programs. Sadly there is no official OneNote app for Android, and there probably won't be. Yes, there is a 3rd party app but it doesn't let you create notes/edit notes on the device.

So... Anyone else have any ideas/suggestions that would satisfy the requirements above?

Don't know when you last checked but MobileNoter SE does now let you create and edit notebooks.

Using MobileNoter SE 2.0 for Android, you can edit and create new text on your pages, add images and audio recordings - almost everything you've got used to in other versions of MobileNoter. And the easy synchronization (without any Sync Clients) is also in place.

I still like "Post it Notes"... I use a pencil and stick them to my phone case. They sync from work to home, don't use any battery, and are easy to change. :D

Thanks for this! I have installed the free version and I will check it out. I really hope this works!

I've been using AK notepad which syncs to catch.com. I am trying to consolidate and looking for notes app to sync to dropbox.

For iphone, i use plain text.

I don't need anything special. Just a subject line and then notes underneath. sort alphabetical and that's it really.

Additional features are fine, but not needed.

I recently switched over to a Galaxy Note from an iPhone where I used and loved Awesome Note. I've tried out several Android programs and I'm pretty sure I'm going with Springpad for personal use and Note Everything for Business use...

Springpads set up is similar to awesone note and it syncs with it's own website. Note Everything will sync with my sd card or a note at a time with Goggle docs. I think the interface is clean and most suited to catagorizing notes the way I need to for work.

Hi. I am looking for a good android app that is similar to the Note Taker HD app for the ipad. Any suggestions for which apps I should consider?

In case you have not already seen it, Microsoft has finally released an official OneNote app for Android.

Market link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.microsoft.office.onenote

NOTE: You do NOT need to have OneNote on your computer to use this, but you will need to have a Windows Live (aka Hotmail) account.

You can create, view, and edit notes in various notebooks, make photo notes, and checklists. The app will sync your notes to your Windows Live SkyDrive account.

If you do have OneNote 2010 (it won't work with 2007) you can set it up to sync those notebooks to your PC.

If you don't have OneNote 2010, you can still edit/create notes on a PC using the web version of OneNote.

I highly recommend the full version of OneNote 2010. It is VERY powerful, more so than Evernote. It is the one MS Office program I use more than any other.

Now that I have the OneNote android app, I will be getting rid of the various other text apps I use (Note Everything, Evernote, SpringPad, etc).

ATTENTION: Just so it isn't a surprise, the app in the market is free, but only up to 500 notes (but really, that's a lot of notes!). Once you get past 500, you will have to make an in-app license purchase for $4.99 (US) which gives you unlimited notes.

To put that into perspective, Evernote charges $45 per year in perpetuity for a premium account (and offline access to non-cached notes). It's also a hell of a lot less than buying the full version of OneNote for PC, and since you can use the OneNote web app for free, it's a pretty good deal.

So frustrating.

I became a compulsive note taker starting with Yahoo Notepad. Unfortunately they do not appear to be venturing into a mobile helpful app.

I love Catch (SD b/u, easy web access, user friendly, offline access) but I really really need folders like in Evernote and Springpad. I hate the premium charges in Evernote and complex backup and offline access. Springpad would be perfect but scrolling through long notes while editing does not work (works fine in EN and Catch). Also do not like the backup system.

I cannot believe how many note-taking apps come out without folders! So basic it seems like. And sub-folders would be great too.

Mjschmidt it seems like you were looking for what I was. OneNote seems bad though - cannot create notebooks on the app. Small font size.

If Catch just added folders I'd be so happy. Or if Yahoo NP came out with an app

@KevinBadger: Well, keep in mind that the MS OneNote app only just came out, and the competitors (Springpad, EN) have been out on Android for a while.

On the OneNote mobile blog/forum people have complained about the limitations of the android OneNote app, and the devs have responded to say that that they are aware, and that updates will be coming down the road.

I'm willing to deal with the issues and wait for the updates because when i am on my computers I use OneNote extensively because of how powerful it is.

As for creating new notebooks, and moving notes, for the time being at least you can also access your OneNote notebooks via the WindowsLive/skydrive web site in your mobile browser. Not so easy on a phone, but seems to work okay on a tablet.

Are there any note-taking apps that save the files as .txt/Notepad documents you can open on your computer?

NoteEverything saves its notes in a database on the phone, but will let you export notes as .txt files, which you could, in theory, sync to your computer and then open in a .txt editor. of course, then you have to get them back in to the phone, and then import back in to NE.

Okay - I've got a question that might fit in here...
I had to do a factory re-set of my galaxy nexus and pulled my Color Notes files before doing it; stored them on my desktop. Is there a way to recover those files (really, just a list that I don't want to try and remember) or do I have to go back and re-enter what I can remember of it?
I thought the file hierarchy would be the same after the re-set/reinstall of Color Notes, but it doesn't seem to be so.
Any help?

I've been using Catchnotes. Everything is backed up online and you can access your notes anywhere. I am still checking out what's out there especially the free apps. I may try SpringPad next.

Any other note tacking app that will time stamp when you start taking notes other than audionote?
apMemo adds a time stamp for a new note. Its full version might be also an answer to the earlier question about notes in .txt, as it stores notes in text files on the SD card.

I tried really hard to find a decent notes app for Android that would support hierarchical notes. Reviewed about 30 apps - all the top ones. Some of the note apps are quite good, but don't support hierarchies (just Notepads and Notes). Outliners do support hierarchies but I couldn't find a decent one for Android.
So, we had to develop our own Notes and Tasks app - Memability. Check it out on Google Play Store - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=au.com.ds.ma - it's FREE. For more details visit Memability | DataSymphony

We also trying to find out, if many people are interested in structuring their notes using extensive hierarchies. If you have any thoughts on it, please leave a comment on our site DataSymphony | Own your own data.

Thanks in advance.

So after trying to make the Android OneNote app part of my tablet routine regularly, I am giving up.

I love OneNote on my PC, it is really amazing what you can do with it, but the Android app is just plain pitiful.

Today I took my tablet to a meeting to take notes. OneNote kept lagging and freezing while I was trying to type, leaving me with just a bunch of typos and half words all over the place. Trying to delete the mistakes was just as bad because of the lag.

I needed to take notes, and I was starting to fall behind, so I had to quickly switch to Polaris Office and create a Word doc. No more lag or freezing, so it wasn't the fault of my tablet (Asus Transformer Prime).

So I've re-installed Evernote, and I'll give it another run. They've made lots of changes and advancements since last I used it, so we'll see if I make the switch (including on my PC).
