Root App remove

Removing system apps does not give more space I'm lead to believe (based on a post made by the Defrost developer on xda)...

This is correct, but moving the .apk files from the data partition to the system partition will give more space....

I am trying to find out if it is possible to add .apk files to the system partition on the phone using adb shell rather than modifying the rom and re-sighning the rom then re flashing...

Ive not used this method myself, but I did once manage to install something using adb when mounted /system/app. Although I think one attempt it still ended up data/app.
