Help App to SD?

Let me start by saying I'm new to the smartphone world, I've only had my LG Ally for about a month. I received the OTA update this morning, and was really happy when I saw that I could now install apps onto my SD card. The only problem is .... I have no idea how to do it lol. Can you move existing apps to the SD card too? Any help would be much appreciated, as would easy to understand directions :) Thank you!

You can do it manually in the system settings. Open settings>applications>manage applications. When you click on an app it will give you info about it. If it has a button for 'move to sd' it can be moved. Or go to the market and download an automator. Sd move is pretty good and it codes what can and cannot be moved by color. Have fun with froyo.

The only problem is an app like Jorte, which has widgets and an app, the widgets will not work if the app is on the SD card.

I find this utter BS but I can't do anything about it right now.

If your phone is rooted you can install Move2SD (free from market) which allows you to move most apps to the SD even if the developer didn't support it. I've noticed it causes problems with widgets but otherwise it's great.

Ok so I'm kind of embarassed for even asking how to move apps because that was ridiculously easy lol. I've noticed some apps say your phone needs to be rooted, what does that mean?

Rooting is like having administrator rights. You have more control over the Ally's operating system and it's files. Most of us here use rooting to get rid of some of the "Value Added" files (bloatware) that Verizon and LG push to the phone. The main purpose of removing those applications, which few use, is to free up valuable memory for other needs. The Ally does not have much memory to begin with. In addition, we are able to load various ROMs (modified operating systems) at will. Some of the Devs here have cooked up some awesome stuff that makes the Ally much more capable and fun:)
