I use nova prime as my launcher so as i have unread count for text and Gmail i would like to stop notifications for text and Gmail appearing in the status bar.

to turn off notifications for gmail you just need to go to the app go into settings tap your email addy and uncheck the notifications box as far as the text it would depend on what you use.

I have a Samsung s3 so running jeally bean,With stock text message.

With Gmail if you untick gmail notification then that stops you getting a sound notification.

hmm interesting I never used it just knew where the setting was.

Should be a setting in the stock app but maybe not.

The only sure way I know to stop them both is to disable the apps. Not very practical if your using them.

With sms if the only way you will get any notification at all is by letting it show up on your status bar. That's just how it is as far as I know with Jellybean. The badge notifications with tesla unread are just a reminder they cannot replace your notifications.

I dont want to change to another email app so i think i will put up with it for now. Seems though in previous versions of gmail you could stop it popping up in your notification pannel but now they have removed that option. I still want sound notification but dont want it in the status.

I have the latest Gmail, I believe. It has an option to disable notification. Go to settings, then select your account, then inched notifications. You will then have to check your mail manually, as you won't receive a notification.
Textra is great for SMS, it has a number of options for configuring notification privacy.

Hi,Yes gmail does have the option to disable notification but that stops everything meaning no tone to let me know i have a message. Its just the notification i get in the status bar showing me the message that i dont want to get.

You could turn it all off and then use Tasker to provide notifications and tones on incoming text messages the way you want. You could also make it selective so that it played a different tone for different message sources.
