Apple concretely addresses reception issue

The iPhone scored high, in part because it sports the sharpest display and best video camera we've seen on any phone, and even outshines its high-scoring predecessors with improved battery life and such new features as a front-facing camera for video chats and a built-in gyroscope that turns the phone into a super-responsive game controller. But Apple needs to come up with a permanent—and free—fix for the antenna problem before we can recommend the iPhone 4.

Please tell me where that says its a better "phone" its a great "game controller" with a sharp display and best video camera. In regards to everything else its nowhere near as good especially at being a "phone", never mind an iphone.

See, the thing is I actually know a thing or two about antennas.
I saw the leaked photos and had many, many conversations with former colleagues about this antenna and we called it BS before the phone was released.
Then, Apple gets rid of their RF engineers. (which I used to do, BTW.)
They should have been canned simply because they designed a S--T antenna system.

So, tell me oh iUser how you can spin this to me that somehow convinces me that this was a good idea?

Know why nobody else has done it?
Because its a -BAD- idea, not because Apple thought it up first.

Some of us have been around more than 20 years, you know.
And some of us are not patently stupid.

Evidently it wasn't a bad idea as the overwhelming vast majority of Iphone 4 users have zero problems with the phone, haven't complained about reception, and haven't returned it.

While none of us know the background of the engineers who work for Apple and design their iphones, I think it's safe to say they're probably among the best in the business, with stellar academic and professional backgrounds. They didn't think it was a bad idea because they knew what they were doing.

Apple knew about the problem before the phone was put into production. Apple tried to hide the problem, but people who live in non-optimal signal areas dropped a lot of bars (because they weren't at full strength to begin with) and it became horribly noticeable.

Steve Jobs said that the bloomberg story was .. quote .. "bullshit". In other words, he says they're lying. Unfortunately, there is no evidence to indicate otherwise and that Apple knew about this problem.

A lot of individuals have come forward laiming to have the "scoop" about a new item or the "inside details" of what's going on inside Apple (or they claim to have the True Story

Yup, Steve Jobs says something is BS and the kool aid drinkers swallow it right up and then spit it back out for others...

Please do your reading before you tout what consumer reports says please...

Yup, best smartphone on the market with a review that says Why Consumer Reports can't recommend the iPhone 4. Maybe a little bit of rum in that kool aid too eh?

I did my reading, I know what CR says and doesn't say. You need to be a CR subscriber (a paying member) to see the smartphone reviews in their entirety.

Consumer Reports scored the Iphone 4 a 76 out of 100 possible points (the Iphone 3GS and HTC Evo received 74 points) and stated that the Iphone 4 is the "best smartphone on the market".

I am not making this up.

If you are a paying subscriber of CR, you can see the full review here. If you are not a paying subscriber and cannot see the review, a screenshot of one section of the review is posted here.

Was that the ones that he fired or the ones he had to advertise in the paper to get AFTER they released a broken phone?

I would like this thread to remain on that topic and not degrade into thinly veiled personal insults or anything like that. :)

You keep saying this while you come off as a typical iFanboy.
I know your walking a fine line here, but it seems your goal here is not to discuss this but to irritate people.

Nobody here as of now agrees with you, period.
If you want to discuss it with people that agree with you (as in: drank the same kool-aid) then run along to the iForums where there are apparently no upset customers flooding their forums and getting their posts deleted.

So I ask again, why are you REALLY here?
All you are doing is regurgitating Steve Jobs and Apple marketing, FUD and half-truths.

So you think your phone is better, perhaps your better suited on the censored Apple forums?

There's a TV Program called "Click" on the BBC (it's also broadcast on BBC World) and they tested the iPhone 4 and they were able to replicate this issue quite easily. "Fixing" the software will make the signal strength display properly will not stop the dropped calls that a lot of people do actually get.

I've seen enough.

This (and similar) discussions/debates will always end up in a stalemate, so let's all agree to disagree and allow each other to enjoy their personal device of choice.

This is Android Forums, remember? :)
