Help Apple headset doesn't work

I've recently bought an X8, and I am happy with it.

But! I do have one major problem. I am unable to connect my apple headset to my phone. Though it fits perfectly(of course it does, it's both mini-jack), the sound is just played through the speakers, when this headset is plugged in.

I have tried both my sound-system from Philips(works) and this other SE stock headset, though it had a "mini-jack extensioncord", which might have worked wonders - fact is, that it worked. Tomorrow I will test my Apple headset with this extensioncord of my friend's, to see if that's really what makes it work.

Anyways, do any of you guys have an idea what what might be wrong? I see that some other people have had the same problem with their SE phones, is there any way to fix it?

Apple Earphones with Remote and Mic - Apple Store (U.S.) these are the ones I have.

I don't know but on the website there is a list of products with which is the headset compatible I can't see Xperia X8 there

Computers are not listed either, although they are compatible

My friend forgot his headset(and converter), so cannot test them that way untill tomorrow.

Although I did try a different headset today. It was a 40$ one from JVC, and they worked beautifully. It's quite a mystery for me.

Looking forward to a clue...
