Apple is arrogant and inconsiderate

Just read today that Apple made a profit of about $6 billion during their last quarter, on revenues of about $25 billion.

I feel that in today's economy, with so many people struggling around the world, those kind of profits are a bit obscene and arrogant. Further, with so many tech companies struggling (Nokia, Motorola etc.), it's a bit arrogant to be making a 40% profit margin on your products.

It's kind of inconsiderate to announce a huge profit when so many other companies and people are struggling.

i have Apple stock. i don't consider it to be arrogant in any way.

they are a business. they are in it to make money. they seem to be doing something alot better than Nokia, Motorola, etc...

there is nothing wrong with doing well.

I have no problems with companies making a profit but I do believe a public or limited company should be socially responsible. I understand (but am not 100% sure) that Apple does make charitable donations to educational and worldwide community affairs programs though I don't know what the proportion of their profits are given to charitable donations. They are also a part of programs like Product Red.

I do believe however that Apple is arrogant in the way it feels the need to sue every competitor that bares fruition. This does nothing but stifle the market and slow progress.

/Thread moved to P&CA forum.

I also believe that Apple is an arrogant company that thinks they should be dictating how you and me should use our devices.

However, they play clever with the public marketing, PR and emotions. And that apparently attracts many buyers that are willing to pay big $$$.
One has to be strong in mind to resist the temptation of believing the Apple cult... :)

Generally speaking, it's in the economies best interests for businesses to do well, apple included.

It's kinda how the whole "capitalism" thing works. What did you expect?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but since they're a publicly traded company, aren't they legally required to report any profits/losses on a regular basis?

If anything, the people in the US with NO job or income should NOT be getting a profit. That's arrogant and inconsiderate to think they get anything.

I think you are arrogant in your post about apple. You seem to not know anything Apple or other corporations do as far as charity work. So I guess you hate every business that turns a profit? I also guess you hate yourself Everytime your bank account earns interest. You just sound jealous that you can't.share in the profits that Apple posts.if you want to look a huge profits? Then look at the oil companies.

companies charge what the market will bear
if people thought their prices were too high, they wouldn't buy them, profits would go down, prices would go down, until they hit a point where sales went up.

apple is good about marketing, they release as many units as they think they can sell out of, therefore charging a slightly higher price by artificially increasing demand and keeping the prices high

apple is the king of economic manipulation. add to that a cult like following and you have your higher prices.

do you want all companies to sell @ marginal profits just to keep prices down?
if you think this is a good business model, feel free to start start a company and compete

I thought that was the case as well, not totally certain.

But it is a business afterall, and the goal of any business is to make money. They are doing it, just because others are struggling doesn't mean every company has to struggle. If they release their profits, they may get more interest for being a strong company in the stock area and get even more money. It's simple business.

Apple is trading ~$350 a share, you better give someone a damned good reason to pay that much per share and invest in you, and they are doing so by releasing their excellent profit numbers.

There was this thing called, " communism" that you would have liked. In fact, all those businesses in North Korea are doing really well.

North Korea is simply a dictatorship. No one owns businesses there because the government controls everything.

It's no secret that a lot of android users feel they're a cut above because they feel androids are more tech savvy and by extension, their users. It's a kind of elitism. On that token they see iphones as a kind of mcdonalds of the mobile industry, meaning not the greatest but having mass common appeal.

So if apple is doing so well is it their fault that our society gobbles up easy simple fast food solutions? Nintendo knew this as well. It offers the least number of kick ass complex game titles and is the only major console manufacturer that has NO hdmi. Yet they outsold the competition due to targeting the mom/little kid market.

Don't blame apple for being better capitalists. Blame modern society for being the sweaty masses they think of us as. Be like me and rest secure in your own mind that you chose not to be one.

Apple know a thing or two about marketing, and in my opinion are quite possibly the masters of trendy. They make products that people are willing to buy and thier goal as a company is to make money. If they made 10 billion instead of 6 it wouldn't change a thing. They do what they do and make money, it's neither their fault other companies struggle or that the economy is crap.

I find Apple exceedingly arrogant, but not because they make an assload of money. Even though there are few companies that I dislike more than Apple I am actually some what happy that there are companies that are turning such a profit.

I agree 100%. That is why if I do not like the product or company, my Benjamins stay neatly folded in my pocket. See how simple it can be?

So you would rather have Apple fail, huh? Clearly you do not know much about Apple specifically or business in general. The job of business is to make profits and the more, the better.

Too bad for the others in far off lands, but it is not our job or Apple's job too solve their issues. I am sure Apple does lots of things for lots of folks in lots of places across the globe. So, are you upset at the actual profit or just the announcement of the profits Apple has enjoyed?

Apple is required to report earnings. they are not allowed to lie about it. And Apple has many shareholders that appreciate Apple's profits.

Perhaps your anger is best directed at the dictators and despots that are hurting those in Klaxflugerstan or Narnia or wherever that are hurting those poor souls in far off lands. In many cases, things suck over there because the leaders suck over there.

Let me ask you this: how much should Apple be allowed to earn? You say 40% is too much. What amount did you have in mind? And remember, the amount you say will likely affect every company.

I do not think most smart phone users are the least bit tech savvy. They simply wanted a cool new phone, and made a decision to purchase for any number of reasons.

We Android users for the most part do not need an Android phone. We tell ourselves we do, but we did just fine fifteen or twenty years ago without ANY portable phone. We love them and we buy them, but most of us do not need web access, email, YouTube, and Facebook with us every waking moment.

Same for probably most iPhone users. Or Blackberry or Virgin or Cricket.

I'll agree that we are often forced into using them because we are controlled by others that seem to think we should be connected every waking moment. For most users, however, they simply do not need a smartphone, they just want them because they are cheap, readily available, and reasonable.

If you remember the so called 'Brick' phones, chances are you might recall all kinds of comments about portable phones and how trendy or how really important we must be. How we are big shots and oh so self-important. Many single guys likely carried their brick into bars because they wanted to feel important. To show off, as it were.

Hell, I remember radio telephones that took up large amounts of space for the transmitter as well as the receiver sections. My father was always embarrassed to use. If you had money, it was THE thing to have.

As for Apple and its profits, isn't it a good thing that a company is making so GD much money in this economy? We should stop harping on Apple and ask ourselves if Apple fails, will that be a good thing or a bad thing. I hope Apple clears 100 billion next year and Steve is still working hard at Apple for years to come.

North Korea is simply a dictatorship. No one owns businesses there because the government controls everything.

That's basically the definition of communism.

Anyway, Apple is indeed exceedingly arrogant. However, they are also exceedingly successful and no one can deny that. I think Steve Jobs is an arrogant prick. I can't deny the fact that he took a company that was floundering and very nearly dead and turned it completely around and made it a juggernaut. They're a ridiculously successful company.

That's basically the definition of communism..
North Korea is the definition of running a country as a family business

There are still people driving new mercs in Pyongyang (not Party people)

I wouldn't put it down as Communist as its a dictatorship rather than a Socialist One Part State

________

@OP, show me how much they pay in tax if you want to give out about them making a profit

The five countries listed as "Communist" by their own governments and CIA World Factbook:
1. China
2. Laos
3. Vietnam
4. North Korea
5. Cuba

North Korea is a dictatorship, but the government is hard line communist and follows that strict ideology.
