It's no secret that a lot of android users feel they're a cut above because they feel androids are more tech savvy and by extension, their users. It's a kind of elitism. On that token they see iphones as a kind of mcdonalds of the mobile industry, meaning not the greatest but having mass common appeal.
So if apple is doing so well is it their fault that our society gobbles up easy simple fast food solutions? Nintendo knew this as well. It offers the least number of kick ass complex game titles and is the only major console manufacturer that has NO hdmi. Yet they outsold the competition due to targeting the mom/little kid market.
Don't blame apple for being better capitalists. Blame modern society for being the sweaty masses they think of us as. Be like me and rest secure in your own mind that you chose not to be one.
I do not think most smart phone users are the least bit tech savvy. They simply wanted a cool new phone, and made a decision to purchase for any number of reasons.
We Android users for the most part do not need an Android phone. We tell ourselves we do, but we did just fine fifteen or twenty years ago without ANY portable phone. We love them and we buy them, but most of us do not need web access, email, YouTube, and Facebook with us every waking moment.
Same for probably most iPhone users. Or Blackberry or Virgin or Cricket.
I'll agree that we are often forced into using them because we are controlled by others that seem to think we should be connected every waking moment. For most users, however, they simply do not need a smartphone, they just want them because they are cheap, readily available, and reasonable.
If you remember the so called 'Brick' phones, chances are you might recall all kinds of comments about portable phones and how trendy or how really
important we must be. How we are big shots and oh so self-important. Many single guys likely carried their brick into bars because they wanted to feel important. To show off, as it were.
Hell, I remember radio telephones that took up large amounts of space for the transmitter as well as the receiver sections. My father was always embarrassed to use. If you had money, it was THE thing to have.
As for Apple and its profits, isn't it a good thing that a company is making so GD much money in this economy? We should stop harping on Apple and ask ourselves if Apple fails, will that be a good thing or a bad thing. I hope Apple clears 100 billion next year and Steve is still working hard at Apple for years to come.
