I'm reading the live blog for the iPhone 5 announcement right now and can't believe how spot-on predictable and non-innovative this phone is turning out to be.

I have a feeling this thing is going to turn away a lot of iPhone users... Samsung better plan on ramping up production. :D

There's still loads of people it will suit. It'll take more than an incremental specification upgrade to damage them beyond the point of no return.

Have to say, so far the specs look shite. Unless they drop a bombshell and have priced it very low, I think that even the sheep will begin to realise they aren't worth the money.

I think apple and the new iPhone will do just fine, I'm pretty sure they aren't all that worried to be fair to them.

It will break all sorts of sales records, but it is a HUGE bust imo. I wonder how long they'll be able to get away with such shitty updates to their prodcuts. I'd be pissed if I were an Apple fanboy right now.

The specs won't be worth mentioning and it's still gonna sell well because apple has built a customer base with strong brand loyalty. An iphone user won't be able to say they have a superior phone but they're still gonna buy apple simply because it's apple.

Many android users would probably buy iphones if they were seen to be truly superior technology. Not the same for iphone users to android.

I'm really surprised they skipped NFC, I thought for sure they'd implement that. Unless I missed that announcement.

I think you're correct... to a degree. At some point though, even loyal iPhone owners are going to want something fresh. I mean, the iphone originally attracted boat loads of people BECAUSE it was fresh and new. Those same people now, call them the 'independent voters' of the phone world, are more than likely a little bored, and looking for a substantial update to justify the cost of upgrading.

I mean really, the iPhone pretty much looks and "feels" the same way it did in 2007.

Android, although sucky in 2008, adapted to what customers wanted, and is now something that is genuinely desirable. This is really the difference between iPhone and Android. With Android, customer wants drive design. With iPhone, you are told whats cool and necessary.

To be fair, all Apple need is a 2 word Ad campaign:

"New iPhone"

...and they're laughing.

It's been like this for years. Since the iPod. It was never the best on the market, but outsold everything else.

I made the mistake of recommending an Android phone to my sister. She does not appreciate the customization. I have since recommended the iPhone to 2 other siblings for it's easy of use and user friendliness. There's plenty of phones for everyone to have their own preferences.

It's the way Apple operates; slow with the 'new' features so it can be a 'big' announcement and the fans can jump all over it.

Can't fault them though; they are doing pretty well for a company ;)

This discussion is (untypically) not about judging or frowning upon anyone's preference. Rather it's about the cashcow machine selling a minor upgrade for a lot of money and getting away with it.

Exactly. I got bored of iPhone/iOS and wanted a change. I get bored easily which might explain why I'm on Wife 3.0 :D

Guys, you gotta consider that the majority of the iPhone users don't even look at the specs of the phone. Android users, for that matter, care a lot more. An average iPhone user, if money isn't that much of a problem, would gladly upgrade his 4s to the 5 with no regrets. That's how it is.

So the i5 is going to have a larger screen and the unit will be thinner? Just like a GS3!! I think Samsung should sue the arse off them, the bloomin copycats :-)

you can tell they are scared of samsung as they say "iphone5 is made for the hand, samsung is made for humans"
Did they really say that? That actually sounds like a negative for the iP5 to me. It's like saying that the iP5 is made for the hand, but the S3 is made for the whole person (which typically includes hands).

Humans can use their voice too, for voice activation....
