Today Apple had their live event, in which they announced the new iPad Air and ipad mini and other less important things,

Awesome reply :-)

But does everything with apple have to be viewed as premium? They make people think its premium and sell it at high prices.

iPad Air? - that might cause confusion with their laptop product line. Perhaps iPad Maxi would have have more appropriate, goes with iPad Mini. There was the Austin Mini and Austin Maxi cars, both were marketed together, like little brother and big brother.

As I don't own any Apple products, not much interested me. My church does, so I followed it for that reason. My pastor dropped his iPad 2, so I imagine the new one will soon be gracing our presence :p.

They're sending the collection plates around are they? "Pastor needs an iPad Air fund". ;)

the iPad Air makes no sense as a name, as the only difference between the MBP and MBA is the absence of a disk drive and being more mobile oriented on the Air. more portable. the iPad is already portable and has lacked external storage and disk drives for its entire run. maybe they ran out of naming options for the iPad? since iPad 5, iPad 6 would grow repetitive over time. the iPad 3 was called 'The New iPad' for some reason. not sure what the fourth-generation was called.

I own a few Apple products, i do like them, never had to replace one yet. but i got the iCloud email about the Air. it's a bit thinner, lighter and faster, but still has the (less than 300ppi) Retina display, which Android has long since surpassed. a thinner, lighter, faster iPad. why call it the Air? all the generations have been thinner, lighter, faster than their previous.

Oh, it's just branding - I rarely take much notice of the nonsense that marketing come up with. ;)

I suspect it's just linking to an existing brand (MBA), but it is actually a bigger step down in size than they've had before. iPad 2 was marginally smaller than iPad, the retina model (3) was slightly thicker than iPad 2, and I think size difference between 3 and 4 was non-existent.

These days the diff between MBP and MBA is mainly "retina" screens, number of ports and thermal capacity. Apart from one lonely legacy model the spinning disk is gone (in fact the lack of ports for working at a desk is the major reason I don't have an Air).

Maybe they will name the next one like something iPad feather or something else that is light.

No, Jony Ive will likely make a 'c' variant and start his pastel scheme on the outside like the iPhone 5c did.

Even with those who like pastels, given how so many buy a case and hide any of the outside (i've never seen anyone use an iPhone naked) it makes zero sense why he'd make colors.

The 5C colours are definitely not pastel shades. ;)

Why shouldn't they produce coloured shells if there's a demand, which there obviously is? If choices other than black or white are good enough for Samsung, HTC and Nokia, why not Apple?

but most folks who buy an iPhone put it into a case, in which case, (no pun intended) renders the point of colored phones moot. being red, blue or green makes little sense when the phone is in a camo or black Otterbox.

Otterbox must have thought the iPhone colour to be important, as well to show off the logo, otherwise they wouldn’t have put a bloody great big hole in the thing.

Well, to be fair, it's not like a hole would benefit the Android version of their cases since there's no Android logo on the backs of our phones.

There's quite a few Androids that do have the logo on the back, but it's mostly the cheapos, KIRFs and knock-offs. :D ...basically nothing to be really proud of, or want to show off.

if it were on the backs of flagships, it would be worthy of showing off, or at least, annoying the Apple Die-hards.
