Sure, tons of products have staggered availability... but name one other company that demo's a product in one color only.... then doesn't release it in that color first. Name one. C'mon. I know you can do it.

A concept version and pre-release demo version are two completely different things.

Ford doesn't hold a press conference with Alan Mulally driving a black, sequined, jacked up, 4x4 F-150 three days before the launch and then release only a green, polka-dotted, slammed, 2x4 F-150...

ummm......actually they do.


ok, maybe not so much with alan driving a sequined vehicle, but....

in 2 of the last 3 mustang releases, this has actually happened.

one of the releases (the one for the body style of mustang that started in 99) actually happened here in nashville at the wildhorse saloon, which i was at.

anyways, in 2 of the last 3, press conferences to debut mustangs, a certain mustang was debuted only to have it hit production with tweaks made to any number of combinations of the following things: headlights, taillights, front and rear fascias and trim packages. albeit all minor differences, but differences no less that never made it to production for some reason or another.

chevy did this as well with the camaro that just returned to production.

obviously i dont think those who were wanting to pre-order iphone4 really cared since apple sold 600,000 iphones yesterday which was not only their highest pre-order total ever, but also managed to crash both apple's and att's servers. i say that is a win.

I actually don't dislike apple so much... I don't care for apple products for myself but see the reasons that some people do. I was just stating my opinion... not grasping at straws as the particular "straw" you suggest I was grasping at was already sitting alone on the table... pulled out of the package by mbell75.

I love how people try to make you feel dirty for having freedom. If the fact that it is somehow easier to get porn on an open device is Steve Jobs' main talking point for defending Apple's stingy content policies, he really should get into politics. The strawman argument works very well there.

Certainly not my intention to make anyone feel dirty, I could care less what people do with their, ahem, alone time. I just mean that's the one area where there really is a stark difference between Android and Apple. Other than that, I'm not aware of any areas where there is a vast array of apps on Android and none on the iPhone. I could be wrong, but I think that's about it. In every other arena I can think of, the selection of apps for the iPhone is at least as good as Android (with the possible exception of things that just don't need to exist on an iPhone, like a task killer).

The biggest drawback about the iPhone IMO is the all glass structure... no thanks... I drop my phone quite a bit. I don't want any glass phone, period. Secondly, is the botched multi tasking. If they threw true multi tasking on iOS, iPad would definately be worth a second look. I like having email, browser, music, and I'm clients open while computing. I can do this easily on my moment.. why not something that has better specs like iPad? If they did that and doubled the ram, the iPad would have actually appealled to people like me. Oh well. Notion adam ink, where are you?

@toasty: I disagree. I look through the market all the time, and I've found like one or two porn related apps. I honestly don't think there's a problem at all. I'd imagine the App Store has about the same number of useful apps as the Android Market.

I took a look at 3 of those apps, and none of them had any nudity. Now, they did have sexy women in bikini's or lingerie.

So, not porn in my opinion, but I guess that depends on your definition of porn.

There is no denying, Google needs to clean house.

As a parent, I would be shocked to see that list from just doing a simple search for "Photography" I don't want my children being able to download apps that help me find hookers in my area.

This isn't isolated, I can probably come up with more search examples with different results that give access to illegal content as well.
How does Google get away with letting people put out "50-cent ringtones" and other copyrighted rip-offs. I see a gazillion ringtones from different music artists that are clearly not produced by the record holder.

Don't believe me, do a search for "NorthStart" , "Androidz", "Axe Studio" Spam. Spam. Spammed apps littered throughout the marketplace.


The very first day I got an Android device and my 1st 20 minute impression was "What the hell is wrong with the marketplace, 80% of it is wallpapers, ringtones, photo images that are clearly not legal. 10 out of 100 results are fetish apps of Japanese anime starlets. WTF"

I don't think having porn is a bad thing(actual porn that is, and some of the stuff people are getting upset by that isn't really anywhere near porn), but maybe it could be separated into it's own section of the Market; and I agree that crap ringtones/wallpaper apps are a pain in the arse, and I'd love to apply a filter that hid them from results. I'd love to see all the rubbish apps removed, but I guess somebody must be downloading them, and probably think those I use are rubbish!

i'm not very knowledgeable about the appstore since i've never used it but a few things that come to mind:

browsers - afaik, until recently you couldn't use anything but safari on an iphone (?) and i'm quite sure android has the upper hand in choice still

is there any app to overclock the iphone, like setcpu etc. for android?

how about emulators? i know apple used to say no to those, is this still the case?

I wasn't referring to the market specifically, I was just referring to the general availability of porn-related apps. There's a whole separate market devoted to porn, as I recall, although I don't remember the name of it. mini-something, perhaps?

and again, I don't care if people use their phones for porn, I really don't (although I do think most would prefer a bigger screen), I was just using it as an example of one area where Android provided a lot more options.
