Apps and internet useage?

Hi all
I have just got the mini pro (2 days ago) - never owned an Android phone before.
Logged onto my online acccount and saw that I have already used half of my 500MB usage. My daughter was playing with the apps alotn yesterday - do the apps use your internet useage?

We downloaded free ones from the Market place. Am surprised that I have used almost half my useage already.
Thanks for your help. I feel like I'm going to have lots of questions about this phone.

Yes, they do, but half of 500MB, for two days, is a lot.
I use about 200-250MB a month for apps, updating apps, facebook, email, wikipedia, and rarely youtube. On some occasions I use wifi, if available.

Are you sure that she didn't watch tons of videos on youtube, or something like that? Or you have/she has downloaded tons of apps...
