Help apps closing?

dirt23

Lurker
Facebook will just randomly close, no error message just close and return you to your home screen, line app will open, load the startup screen then close again no error message..deleted and reinstalled several times no luck. So far these are the only 2 apps not working correctly any thoughts?

Been running 5 for a few weeks, looking at the other forums it seems alot of M8's are having the same problem so guess we wait for app update

Found the answer!!! Uninstall web view it will be in your recently updated apps section on playstore everything working normal now

My m8 just started closing certain apps today. Close as soon as I opened them. Found this thread and uninstalled "android web viewer" and all is ok.
The weird thing is it updated a few days ago, but didn't start acting up until today.

I want to thank Dirt23 for the find. I was ready to pull my hair out. I had the same issue. Apps just stopped running. I do want to stress one thing. Just disabling the "Android Web View" app didn't help me. I had to follow the instructions and uninstall the updates. I wonder if HTC and the cell phone carriers know if this?

Yep. Web View was the culprit! Trivia Crack and 2048 were closing a few seconds after launching. You da man Dirt23!

So should Android Web View never be updated or will there be a fix for this at some time.? What does it do anyway?

WebView has always existed, only now you can update it independently of the entire operating system - that's a huge security improvement.

WebView is the underlying web rendering engine - few browsers or apps that scrape the web drag their own rendering engine around, they're simply skins for WebView. (Firefox is an exception.)

Before blaming the WebView update, maybe check out this post -

Yes, WebView will be updated fairly rapidly, that's the point of separation from the rest of rom update process.

But if the problem is crappy apps that have been skating by, no WebView update is going to fix this problem - the apps will need to straighten up and fly right.

It's too soon to say but it's certainly looking like WebView has simply exposed buggy apps for what they are.
