Help Apps Downloading without consent

Hi I have a Samsung Galaxy note 3 and i have a problem. My phone has downloaded a few Things without my permission. Among these things were a dating app (believe it was called meet sexy singles or something to that effect) a picture a half naked woman (which was saved in the photos section under attachments) a app called appcaster and i am fairly certain i opened a link via a Facebook post and a app downloaded by its self which i feel is how all this started. I'm not sure how common things like this are. But i feel if its happening to me it must have happened to someone else. My questions. Can app/attachments/ photos be downloaded by themselves. How common is it? and how do i get rid of this problem for good? I have a girlfriend and don't need weird stuff like this showing up on my phone.

You go to Google Play store, settings click on auto update apps, click do not update apps. Then go to settings/general/application manger/all apps/google play store click clear cache. Or I would try downloading an ad blocker, if you accidently click on the ads on the bottom of one of your apps, or in your case somebody sent you a link advertising some porn site, the minute you open it up it starts downloading, happens all the time. If your not sure delete now ask questions later. Or you could root the phone ( my choice ) and disable the ads altogether.
