Apps for Samsung Galaxy S5

As far as security is concerned.. the biggest thing you can do is to only install apps from the google play store, and check what permissions those apps ask for..

If an alarm clock, needs access to your entire address book and sensitive data, then you probably shouldn't install it.

Is there any particular problem you're trying to solve/prevent?

Well that's bloody boring because all the best games are from unknown installers.
Cluedo, etc.
 
Well, it's bizarre people still referring to the Google play store as the safest place, which it ISN'T AT ALL..I guess you all are forgetting few months ago there was more than several apps carrying virus found on that infamos good name gained mistakenly..

Just saying.

It's probably the safest but don't confuse it with 100% safe. There is never 100% safe... and always some entity trying to install malware, phish passwords, sell your personal info, etc etc.

Google Play does have checks which helps but I'm sure there are many ways around them that someone will find. Google will patch with security updates, remove the infected, and then repeat.

Still this is safer than installing outside the play store.
 
I don't know what your standards of "safety" are..but mine are pretty tight..obviously yours are like "it's ok as long as doesn't kill me"..sorry, I don't just don't play around and hoping not to catch any STD'S on my phone..that's safety..
I've found more "safety" outside the Google play store for about 6 or so years..I've since ever shop else wheres..and it has served me..differently compare to many complains I've heard globally from your favorite store..

If this was in reply to my comment, that's not what I said or meant at all.

Keep in mind, just because a vulnerability is not known or publicly discussed... doesn't mean one doesn't exist. Google Play is the largest app distribution for Android so of course you will hear things.

Glad to hear it... Everyone should take safety seriously... Still at least I know you won't be going around on random sites where there really isn't any guarantee of safety at all.... especially those sites that are too small to make major ripples when they are hacked... and those who won't say when they are... and those that don't remove those apps.

Yes... it was in the news.. because it was google.. and they dealt with it.

They put in place measures to deal with breaches of their security... and they kick apps out of the app store.

All of this has been happening for as long as they have had an app store. Its a game of cat and mouse that will never end.

Even Apple, with their higher level of end to end security have been bitten by this.


The difference with Google vs a random store selling/giving away .apk or jar files.. is that Google actively is scanning/fixing/removing apps... as opposed to joe's discount app store that doesn't do this,

Sure Joe has some hacked apps... but he's got no way of verifying them... and it doesn't make the news. So anyone using them may not even know they've become infected.
