Apps not automatically updating?

When I go to Google Play store and go to my list of apps installed, I have the option to update some of my apps, which means it's not automatically updating. However, for these apps, I already checked "automatically update" and my Wi-Fi is on. Will it automatically update in the background and how will I know if it's updating? Will it even automatically update?

Most of these apps are stock from AT&T, but one is called Hangouts by Google (which I'm assuming is also part of the stock Android for Samsung Galaxy S4). Still, they should automatically update, no?

Thanks.

In play store app, go to settings, Auto Update Apps uploadfromtaptalk1369797368675.jpg
P.s, i wouldnt recommend auto updates because sometimes an update is crap. What i do is under the 3 user reviews, hit All Reviews, then hit Options, then check "latest version only" then also check "from this device only"

Bit off topic but is there any way to hide apps from the UPDATES part of My Apps in Play? Theres a few apps ill probably never update and i dont like the mess of them always being there
